Thank Clinton and his administration...

for tying the military's hands. They are the ones who vetoed the deployment of tanks and armor, despite the military's request for adequate resources.

As far as I am concerned, Clinton and his associates are directly responsible for all of those American lives.

I saw it today, very good movie. Made me want to play some paintball really bad. Watching the movie, you got the impression that a lot more americans died. I'm starting to read the book now. I'm hoping that will give a more accurate impression of the battle. The movie made the Americans out to be big heros, but I hear that it really wasn't like that. Anyway, you should definetly see the movie.

Yeah and do you remember when Clinton was directly questioned about the incidents in Somolia, and he said something to the effect of 'We had unfortunate loses' or something like that! Like as if its no big deal. I forget exactly what he said but I remember being SO angry at him. Most of the fault lies in that dork Les Aspen, and with his rule that nothing could be done overthere unless HE approved of it. That guy should be shot.

i finaly saw it! amazing movie. i thought that it depicted the events pretty well. but i was curious how all those somialians could miss at pointblank range.. its almost pathetic

I checked this movie out last night. I have but one word to say,

Insane!

Urban combat at its worst. It was just pure mayhem! I couldn't imagine running out of ammo in front of a huge mob and laying there helpless...I'm glad those 2 snipers recieved the Medal of Honor. They sure as hell earned it!

Dam, great movie. A must buy on DVD. I'm sure the DVD will have a few interesting extras. Probably the documentary...

I can't believe we eliminated 1000 Somalies....seems impossible given the situation...

the AK's (AK-47, AK-74 and the AKSU-74 were shown) have a fair amount of recoil..but they were almost pointblank..

i dont think the somolians had proper training since they were mostly militia, and civialian fighters.

To you guys who question the heroics of the battle.....bite me. You obviously don't know a damn thing about the UN mission in Somalia, even though the beginning of the movie spelled it out for you. I would suggest educating yourself about the world before you make silly ignorant comments about things you know nothing about. And, while you're at it, slap your so-called teachers who think you should remain ignorant.

Damn straight those men were Hero's. They went into a deadly situation, with their hands tied behind their backs by the Commander in Chief, yet still managed to complete the mission, withdraw from a combat scenario here-to-for unheard of, and pull all their dead and wounded with them.

Truth be known, many hundreds more than 1000 sammy's were relocated to Allahs house of pleasure, and good riddance too. The blood of all who died in the Mog is on the hands of Klinton.

I don't think certain people should have any doubt that those men are hero's. You saw the mission they were trying to complete. They were trying to stop Adidds genocide of starvation. The only american that did wrong there was big C. He supplied the millitary poorly and that costed lives. And to all of you who think that we should have never got involved.....wouldn't you want another more powerful government to step in if some warlord was making you and your family starve to death and there was nothing you could do about it. Think about what you say before you dog on our Military. Anyway, Great Movie.

well. my sociology teacher thought it was a great movie. and he knows better than to talk bad about any branch of the service at least in my hour. hehe.
But Hooah is all i have to say. i saw the documentary. and was just reading the thread here and was going to say almost exactly what army said.
Every one of those men were heros no question about it.

Those men who fought were brave men without a doubt, just seeing the intensity of the street combat in the movie was enough to show me how brave those men were. It makes you wonder how fierce the combat in real life was there. I saw the documentary of it last night on the History Channel and from that it related very well with the scenes in the movie. I'm suprised it didn't recieve any nominations at all for Golden Globes. Hopefully it should recieve some Oscar nominations, it sure deserves some.

It was a GREAT movie...my dad was laughing though at the scene with the dudes femeral artery and after the movie i asked him why. Considering the fact hes a doctor and does surgery, he said it was the fakest surgery scene ever and they had it all wrong. He also said that he has seen hemeraging that dwarfs the blood from that scene, so when everyone was like UGH, he was laughing...

Oh yeah, I saw the movie too and I really enjoyed it. The acting was pretty good, the special effects were great and the best part was that the movie was two hours of non-stop action. I wasn't as good as Saving Private Ryan but it was close. Black Hawk Down also is slightly gorrier and bloodier than SPR.

I totally agree with you. There were many things wrong with the mission in 93. One of which was that they went in during the day. Second they had almost no air supoprt in the way of the AC-130 gunships (I think that is the correct classification. If not then I assume Army will correct me, oh guru of weapons systems.)

As for Abrahms and betters helos, there I disagree with you. The Abrahms is not a good weapon for that type of fight as Bosnia taught us. The Abrahs is..well, a tank. Sure it's hard hitting, fast moving and scary as all get out to look at - much less tosee about 20 of them bearing down on you - but the thing is a logistical nightmare.

As for better helos, the Black Hawk and the Little Birds are just about the best for the type of mission they were flying. Insertion and extraction of units. What they needed was serious as $@#* air support in the way of Skinny Birds a.k.a Apache Attack Choppers.

Finally, the last thing that went wrong with that mission, from my POV is the total confusion in the chain of communication. Intell went from the field to the observers in the air to the operators at the JOC to the general then the general made a decision which went back to the JOC operators then to the air borne intell officers and then the field commanders.

Giving the column directions as simple as when to make a left or right turn was insanely maddening.

I do have to admit though, the one scene I loved the most, above all else was when the Little Bird was flying over Mog as the sun set on the first day of fighting, with a loudspeaker blaring "Michael Durrant. We will no leave you." I don'tknow if that was factual or not but it certainly was moving.

You are right though. The politicians just did not want to fully commit to the war. America is the world police force. Either we have to live up to that and except that we might lose some of our heros or else pull them all back onto America soil, roll up the welcome mat, lock the door and bar the windows and turn our back on the world.

I honestly hope this neverhappens. Someone has to truly fight for demoncracy and freedom, such as it is, and I think the the EU is a tad bit to divided to do it with a fully united face.

That is totally not a flame. Just a commentary.

Anyway, my 2 cents.
