ARmy said it best. Those men were given orders, and followed them to the best of their ability. The movie while glamorized was good, it wasn't completely honest. I read the book four times before seeing the movie, and I can say from reading it, and seeing actual accounts from the fighting that it wasn't as cool as Hollywood portrayed it. These guys were kids, less than 25 years on average, closer to 21, and they did something that we all could never do. Pay them the respect that they deserve, I tried to volunteer myself, but a criminal record prevented me...alas, I wish I could've served with so fine a group of soldiers.

This movie kicked *edit*!!! Did anyone notice that the Delta Force or 1st SFO-D troopers didn't surrer 1 count 'em 1 casualty? And yet the Rangers were falling like flys! I guess that some one in Hollywood used to be a snake eater (i.e. Delta boy).

        follow up on Ac-130

Yes, thats the correct tag. AC-130. Converted Herculese. Carries .50 and Gatilin guns fired by computer. Actually a human controlls the comp which in turn contralls the weaponry. I know that Im missing a lot of info, but at this present time, I don't have all the info pamflits with me. LOL.

Actually, it rarely carries any .50's. It's main armament is centered around a pair, or sometimes four, of either .30 cal miniguns, and/or a pair of 20mm gatling guns. It will also have a pair of 40mm Bofors automatic cannon. Her crowning weapon though, is the 105mm pack Howitzer pointing out the side cargo hatch. She has an enormous battery of flares and chaff. All cannon ammunition is traced, while the .30 cals are combat linked; 4 ball to 1 trace, however the firing rate of the miniguns can reach 6000 rounds per minute. All you see from them is a stream of red trace, but the tiny gap between each tracer holds 4 more bullets you can't see! Army

Just for the record, there was never an official request for armour. They made a big deal about it, but in reality, no armour was every requested. The gunships were still denied, however.

Read the epilogue to the book and it explains a lot

Sort of Thordic. At the initial planning stages of the mission they knew they wern't going to have armor. This was, basiclly, an in and out sortie.

When the feces hit the air motivator, however, is when the requested armor, from the Indian Mountain Division that had secured and held the UN area of Mog.

I know this is an old post!!!!

Dude, I just had to bring it back to life. I just watched it again(second time). This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. A movie that makes you cry, makes you cheer, makes you scared, makes you stand up and say "Hooah"! It just makes me appreciate our military even more than I already do. If someone hasn't yet seen this movie. Make sure you do!!!

Yeah its great! I love the fact they even stuck a token black guy in there with the Rangers just so it wouldnt look like you were watchin' some giant race war. At least that one didnt die like they usually do in movies.

I've seen this movie a dozen times easy, and still enjoy it every single time. One of the few movies Iv'e seen that not only has amazing special effects and action, but actually moved me.
