I have not seen it, and I wasn't planning on it, but since so many people who I would have never thought to like a movie like this says that it's good, I just might have to. Or worse case, buy it on DVD when it comes out.

As for Depp, I don't really like him all that much, but I thought his acting in Pirates of the Caribbean was great. Maybe he just finally found his nitch style after all these years.

      "Mumbler!!"

      the movie was really funny.
"you can eat me too, but that's called canablisim and is frowned upon in many cultures."
i really liked the whole movie. while Gene Wilder had some better parts during the movie, the way Depp plays it, while different, is still quite good.

aye, see it, i dont know how people here DIDNT like it, its genius in its own way. Depp has always been a great actor, pirates he was flawless, neverland he was flawless, and now in willy wonka, i wouldnt be suprised if he got the oscar. You see the commercials and you go "ugh johnny depp eally wierded out mr. wonka", but once you have seen the movie for five minutes you start to wonder if there is any other actor who could pull off such a unique performance.

there were definitely some very great and i think timeless things about this movie (plus i laughed my *** off)....

Yeah, I really think that Depp can get into a role in a really insane way. I mean, he has a different voice, posture, and mannerisms for almost every movie he is in.

-- Though, I think that the way he acted in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas was alomst a primer for his role in Pirates...

          Wonderful actor though.

Speaking of Fear and Loathing, did you catch the Hunter S. Thompson reference in Willy Wonka?

Quoted for the truth. I haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate factory yet, but I plan to. I'm sure it will be great.

The seen in Loompaland where he is wading through the jungle slashing about with a machete. Not only are his actions reminiscent of his swatting at bats from F&T, but you can see the aviator sunglasses tucked into a strap on his vest.

That scene, to me at least, looked like it could have come straight out of some story told by Hunter S after a particularly good binge on blotter acid.

Didn't catch that one. Reading Hells Angels right now, though. Good stuff.

i dunno how much of a reference it is as much as it is just johnny depp being the one cutting through the forest... but i guess yeah, it did sorta have that feel.

Great movie IMO. Depp and Burten make an excellent team. Burtan's scary thoughts are brought to life by Depp. Nicely done, very funny. I did learn one thing from this movie. Depp looks a bit like Michael Jackson with make up.

best part was by far when he went on about the canibalism. i freakin died laughing when i heard that. and when depp made that noise when he called the oompa loompa.
