    apricot tree=strong booze?

yes. i have an apricot tree and me apricots be ready for eating 'bout now.

basically i want to make the strongest damn liquor possible with my apricots and i know for a fact that some of you fools have an idea how.

im thinking of just making brandy, sorta the way ud make grape brandy, but lazyer and with very little equipment.

problem is thats a pretty long, tedious, process and might yield 80 proof if im lucky, im thinking 120 proof here. any ideas?

dunno, but apricots have alot of b16 in them which has been shown to help certain types of cancer...so whether you eat them straight from the tree or make something out of them eat up

If you distill alcohol and screw up, you die or go blind.

I really don't reccomend making your own distilled alcohol unless you have a degree in chemistry or a HELL of a lot of experience.

      No, I'm not joking.

If you think I'm kidding, then go for it.

The smell has nothing to do with it. Methyl alcohol and Ethyl alcohol smell pretty much the same. Fusil oil and other poisonous compounds can also be present.

In order to make it safely, you need some fairly sophisticated equipment, and knowledge. Its not a question of IF it'll be poisonous. Unless you take steps to remove the fusil oil and other compounds, they WILL be present in alcohol you made.

lol well dont worry id look into it if i planned on distilling it, bummer its so dangerous and takes so much equipment. i dont really know much about procurring anything but wine, i should pick up a book, sounds interesting.

so i guess im just makin brandy i THINK thats thats a pretty safe and simple process, just another year or two in the sun..??? dunno if there is any distillation involved... anyway im dicing the apricots tonight, ill keep u guys updated on how it goes and maby when its done in two years ill bring some to a paintball event

by the way, does anybody know if the kind of yeast (wine yeast beer yeast etc...) you use effects the amount of fermentation? my biggest goal is going to be to get rid of that oversweetness so characteristic of fruity wines.

wish me luck, im hoping to make about 10-20 gallons off this tree buit thats just specualtion ill see how much i can get out.

                        Brandy is distilled wine (essentially).

Anything over something like 14% alcohol requires distillation. (Technically theres a way to use fermentation to reach higher alcohol content but I don't think your average person would be able to do it).

If you want some strong liquor and apricots, just go out and buy some 151, and while your drinking it, eat the apricots. sorry, but no real advice here.

                            make a cordial instead.

                            1 gallon jug
                            1 cup of sugar
1 half gallon of 100 proof vodka
and you fill the rest with sliced/mashed apricots.

twice a day you flip the jug upside down. after two weeks you strain it and there you go, apricot cordial that nobody you give it to will ever shut up about.

                            raspberry is good too.

                            have fun and don't die.
