Are you using DHCP? Have you customized the router at all? Are you doing Bridged, Routed, PPPoA, PPPoE?

Not sure what DHCP is. Haven't customized anything. It's PPPoE.

If you have not configured anything (specifically an IP address) you are using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). DHCP allows your computer to get an IP address (which it needs) automatically. Most home style routers come with DHCP turned on for nice easy configuration.

What's the exact model # of your router? I want to do a lil reading on it and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Your router is Dynamically assigning an IP address to your computers. DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

cisco does not suck.

even if it was running at 10 mbs it wouldnt be running as slow as he describes, you wont feel the bandwidth limmitation from your network when on dsl or cable.

MAC addresses dont work like DNS addresses they dont have to propogate to all the routers in the network before it recognizes it.

now why its running at dial up speeds im not sure. Ive used linksys routers many times with 100% sucess It seems weird, possibly there is a setting in the configuration thats messed up. try reseting the router to factory settings, then select PPPOE and enter your username and password for the dsl service, save and apply then check under status to see if its connected to make sure.

Its harder to trouble shoot without the device in front of me, but Ill try if you can get me more information.
