well, I don't like either car personally, I buy American. But if I had to choose between these 2, normally I would go for the Mini. The Scion is just fugly if you ask me. However, the mini has to many miles for my liking, so, I guess it would come down to price.

Not the Scion... the Mini wins by default. However, with vehicles like the Excursion on the road I would like to think I was in something that did not so much resemble a speed bump to them.

Mini, Scion's haven't been out long enough to really guage their reliability/worth after time.

Here's another question...maintenance costs. Being that it is manufactured by BMW, would maintenance cost a ton more on a Mini versus the Toyota based Scion?

If maintenance costs are an issue I suggest looking at two different vehicles.

I don't like either but the mini is going to hold up better then the Scion. As for maintence the mini is going to be expensive because it's a BMW while the Scion is going to be expensive because it's going to be getting fixed every week.

get the xB. Its built by Toyota so it'll be a hell of a lot more reliable than the beemer as well as being cheaper to fix.

Mini built in the UK and the xB is made in Japan. The Japanese made Toyotas have usually been built to higher specs compared to US built models.

Thanks for the advice. I changed my mind on the Cooper vs. xB. Just gonna get a $2000 Chevy Cavalier.

why hasent anyone said anything about how high the miles are ?

2 year old car with 68k thats 34k a year... the avrage is 12k a year.

and a 1 year old car with 20k.

i dont know if i would pick either of them....

from the judge in the WDP v Sp case.... " i find it significant that aside from a somewhat limited notebook produced by gaston, the four named inventors offer NO documentation of there work or there contributions to the conception or reduction to practice of the claimed invention"

Mileage doesn't really mean much actually, it's all on how it was driven. One of the best cars I ever bought was a Cadillac that had about 90k on it and wasn't quite 3 years old yet. Nobody wanted to touch it because of the mileage but she had the original starter and brakes on her. It was a salesman's car and he would start it up, drive 300 miles on the highway, and shut it off. One of the worse low mileage cars I ever saw belonged to my Mom. It must have died out with about 70k on it when it was 20 year old. That car even with low mileage on it went through a ton of starter motors and brake pads. She would start it, go to the store 2 miles away, and shut it off without it even warming up all the way. The only time it ever went on the highway was when I drove it.

Every time you start an engine, it's like putting a few hundred miles of highway driving on it. When the engine is cold the oil isn't circulating right away, and the tolerances aren't what they would be a full operating temperature. There is a reason very expensive engines have pre-lubricators installed. Starting from a dead stop also puts a lot of stress on a drive-train.
