Oh ya, I smoke, have for about 2 years. I regret starting, but oh well, I'll stop when I'm ready and I sure as hell am not ready right now. Lotta **** going on in my life, everyones dying, lost most of my friends, have a boring *** job, my girlfriend lives 2000 miles away, parents are always fighting. I'm gonna smoke if I want to. I know its bad and I never shoulda started. But I did, I started when I was 15, almost 16. And I did it because I knew alot of people that did it and I wanted to try it to see what was so great about it. When I did, I liked how it felt, I didn't mind the taste, and when people saw me smoking they talked to me and thought I was "cool". It opened me up to a whole new life I never had before. It gave me opprotunities to meet people that I never could before because I was too scared to talk to people. And not all underage smokers are bad or criminals(well ya, u know what I mean) alot of my friends got good grades, graduated, and all that good stuff, including myself. Of course alot of people I knew did get locked up or kicked out of school but that was because of all the gang bs that went on in my school. Well anyways just felt like putting my $.2 in. Comment if you would like

I sympathise with you on all acounts.

about 8 people i've known well have died in the past 2 years.
    G/F is 400 miles away.
People causing all sorts of stress and drama in their lives that it cascades down to mine.
    Starting college.
Started when i was about 17, stress finnaly got the better of me and i swiped a coworkers smoke for a drag.

But i have to say, i am at least getting off the menthols for reds. I may die of cancer sooner but hey, i can actually breathe better as opposed to before.

Ascfor all that smoking around people that hate it. I repect that and I go to a far and secluded place from where you are to smoke, air out for 3 minutes, then return to the party or whatever. I have no problem with an excuse to get away from certain people anyways.

Why, both habitual smoking and eating (without exercise) to a point of being grossly overweight (I am for the record, about 20lbs overweight so I realize that I fall into the category) represent a failure of compulsion control and appropriate restraint.

Many of my friends smoke and I don't mind it because they are courteous - I just wish they'd quit for their health. I hope they stick around for a long time - they're the life-long friends variety.

I'm not a smoker, but might have 3 cigs a year just out of sheer boredom. I'll be hanging out with my friends... and I'll grab one. I tried to answer the question: What's the appeal?

I also kinda like hookah lounges on occassion to kick back and whatever...

In a way I understand why people routinely smoke, and in another way I don't understand it.

I had severe asthma for half of my life and still relapse on occassion. It is miserable not being able to breathe - your lungs may be moving... using more effort than normal, but the oxygen just isn't coming in... so your breathing is more labored which burns up even more oxygen. Your whole body gets messed up and have no energy. I have a hard time understanding why you'd want to do something that can lead towards these sorts of problems... and worse. It's an investment in misery.

                    Hmmm.

                    Next...

                    Smoking.
Never smoked a cigarette, never will... I agree with the person that says "If you sucumb(sP) to peer pressure, you're weak. " Albeit most people that do say yes have low self-esteems or such, but whatever.

I smoke a cigar every once in a while, mainly when I'd drinking... is it bad for me? Yes, ofcourse. Will it kill me? If I continue to do so for a long time. But understand this, I rarely smoke a cigar, maybe once every 4 months?

I don't necessarily agree with whoever starts smoking.. I think it's stupid and pointless , especially those who do it to fit in or be "cool". I feel for those who cannot stop, b/c it is hurting them in the long run.

My mother smoked for the longest time, stopping for stints during pregnancy with myself and my sister... she started up again a bit after my younger sister was born, and finally quit 3 years ago cold turkey.. i urged her every day for months to stop etc... threw out any cig. packs I found lying around. Mainly was a genuine d**k. Seems it worked.

Also, I agreed with the people who picked out the "dis-respectful" smokers that light up anywhere... thats quite annoying.

If I am in a large crowd or around other people I wait till I can get away to light up. Now if it is in a bar I don't really care cause, well it's a bar. And well soon as I feel I can get my head around it I am going to quit again.

I think teenage smoking suffers because there are not any articulate and well written supporters of it.

I'm 17 and all I've ever had was a clove cig. No tabacco or nicotine there so I guess it doesn't count. But I'd rather have one of those once in a while since they're non-addictive and they taste good lol. Normal cigs just seem stupid to me. What a waste of time, money, and health. I'm fine with cigars and cloves, but not regular cigs. Just pointless. They don't allow moderation and that's what I kind of believe in. You have a good quality cigar once in a while with a nice glass of scotch or cognac and relax. That's what I see drinking and smoking as, a way of relaxing possibly with friends once in a while, like once a week on the weekends or Fridays. But cigarrettes don't let you practice moderation so I don't see the point. Also, they screw your body up. Having a cocktail and a cigar on the weekends does not. There's really no way to justify them. They aren't classy at all. They aren't practical or useful. They aren't romantic. And there are way better alternatives like a cigar or cloves.

I guess I'm more into being classy than some kind of loser who thinks having yellow teeth and zero endurance is cool. I admit I have a glass of wine now and then, but hell that's good for you. AND, it really is classy as opposed to cigs. Getting drunk and thinking it's cool is also stupid and pointless. Alcohol is for relaxing and simmering down. People who think otherwise are immature. Again, moderation. Weak people don't understand that word. Basically, people who are ignorant and lazy and don't look ahead in their lives. These people are useless drains on society. I wish it were legal to kill them. It would make everything so much more efficient. It would!

I honestly dont mind people who smoke -but as long as its in moderation, which seems to be a theme in this thread. If I am asked if I do drugs/smoke drink, I reply with the truth which is I have never smoked anything. I dont ever want to either.
I am ok with a brownie once or mabey twice a semester but I have a policy about not doing it with friends because I dont want it to turn into something that I do to be cool. I dont drink, I've been tipsy but never drunk -it just doesnt appeal to me.
One thing I have noticed is the difference in society between the east and west coast. I was at a 15 hour pool party when I was back east and everybody there was drinking heavily simply because it was culture. All the parents were upstairs drunk and all the kids where in the basement/bar drunk. I wasn't drinking and my friend was like "are you ok? your not drinking?" I told him I didnt drink and he didnt get it because to him everyone drinks. Most other people at the party seemed to have the same view. -as for my age I turned 16 a few months ago.
