The *community* not you as an individual gets to set their standards and expectations. There's no hypocricy at work when laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

By your poor logic, you should be able to travel the maximum allowed highway speed down every road in the country. After all, a piece of dirt on a small road in front of a school or playground is just the same as a piece of dirt under a 6 lane highway. No?

Then, in many jurisdictions the cop doesn't have to show up in court. Their notes are good enough for testimony unless you can prove a valid and relevant question that can't be answered.

And the worst thing isn't having to pay the ticket. You may have to pay the ticket and court costs.

Everyone should look up their jurisdiction's Highway code and read it. Lot's of stuff you get away with everyday. If it was just about giving tickets to raise cash, they'd post lots of cops and enforce the letter of the law.

How about this:

If I do this act with a particular piece of dirt under me a person with a gun driving a vehicle covered in disco lights will detain me, and hand me a slip of paper instructing me to relinquish my hard earned cash to those who control the aforementioned dirt under threat of force.

Umm... I could have sworn that is what we call federalism. Like, states and communities have soverign power to legislate some values in their community into law irrespective of other states values, while under the same banner and control of central government?

Complaining about something so small because it's okay in another state is like saying just because Timmy's mom allows him to sleep late, it's considered hypocrisy to have my kid sleep at nine. That's obviously ridiculous; I have a right in my house to set sleeping rules for my kids and it's not hypocrisy just because it's different. I mean, this isn't an issue of serious abuse of power, such as whether I think it's okay for me to beat children silly. In the same way, I have a hard time understanding the amount of contention for something so small and viewing it as hypocrisy in the same level as an issue such as fair application of human rights.
