I was in New Orleans a few weeks ago visiting my aunt. And I do not think I will ever do so again after the next few days. Luckily, she was able to fly out on saturday and make here in time for my grandma's birthday. However, she is a professor at Tulane U., so she may not have a job when she comes back...or will she. She is an Enviromental Engineer who specializes in water movement...

I am actually considering waking up at 7 to watch what happens when it makes landfall.
Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

isnt the water still rising in New Orleans cuz the damn thing broke. what i cant figure out is why they built a city near water and have it below see level.

But it was definately interesting to find out that on one side of New Orleans is the levee that holds back the Mississippi River and the other side is the levee that holds back a Lake.

Now New Orleans is a canel between the Mississippi and said lake.

The up side, the French Quarter (all the bars and only cool part of the city) hasn't been flooded as much as it sits a little higher.

The fact that they did build a major city that required canals, levees and PUMPS to keep the city from flooding on a normal day is kinda odd.

When New Orleans was orignally built, it didn't require any of that..

Well, that is partly true. What it did require was a wooden dam up the Mississippi that redirected water.

EDIT: Also, the original section of New Orleans was the French Quarter and as I said in my post, it's on slightly higher ground.

It doesn't matter in the end. The city is done. Most of the city is going to have to be rebuilt and the parts that Katrina didn't destroy, the residents will finish off themselves it seems.
