The length of recordings is not limited by the codec of the video. It's limited by the ammount of storage for data.

In effect you are saying "This wall is red, how long is it?"

MPEG4 is compress video, it would have more compression then a camera with mini DV, the amount you can record would be determined how much memory you have on the camera. i would recommend a cheap panisonic mini DV camera. i dont know what you would film but thats my suggestion

            Found a review that states:

For example using the SC-X105L onboard 512 MB memory this is what you can get recording at:

720/Normal = approx 32 min of recording time
352/Normal = approx 65 min of recording time

720/Fine = approx 16 min of recording time
352/Fine = approx 32 min of recording time

720/Super Fine = approx 10 min of recording time
352/Super Fine = approx 21 min of recording time
That camera also has a MemoryStick Pro slot, so you can add memory. It also said that the batteries lasted about an hour.

Here's the review if you want to read it all: http://www.futurelooks.com//?m=show&id=165&page=1

            Looks like a cool camera.
