    Good, First time car?

Well, the time is near. Im looking for my first car. And, Im looking for opinions.
I can spend anywhere between 0-15,000. I would like to keep it near 10,000 though.

The cars that I am looking at (as any teenage male would)
    1998- 2003 Camaro, 1998-2003 Firebird, Newer mustangs, 3000GTs, Elipises, Hondas Civics (2-doors).

Im looking for opinions on what car would be a good, first time car.

Doesn't really matter since most first cars end up in the junkyard anyways

      Just kidding..

Doesn't really matter. I worried about a good first car when I was out to get a car.
Basically you have two things to worry about now: What the insurance for it is going to be, and does it run.

No matter what car I get, insurance will suck.

        Good damn New Jersey.

screw the civic or any eclipse besides a 1st gen AWD turbo
4th gen camaros are nice if you get a Z28 with the LS1 or the LT1.

my first car was a '94 grand am that my parents gave me, that was 2.5 years ago and 50k+ miles ago.

good luck on what you choose.

the eclipse is going to break alot if its a DSM (from what i hear)
The Civic is just :P and makes me want to cry.
I dig RWD american cars though. oh well.

The first car I looked at the a convertible Z28 camaro. 1999. Black on black wit grey interior. Great condition. 305 horse power, automantic, power everything.
But, the owner wouldn't come down on the price. She wanted 13,000.

My first car was a 1988 Dodge Shadow Ex Turbo. It was a POS looked like poop and was not exactly a very prestigiouse car but it was ok on fuel and inshurance was cheap (4dr model) and yet it was quiet fun for what it was.

You want a first car id suggest something like a old toyota corolla or VW Golf or even a Ford Escort, Even a Civic if y must (I HATE honda for my own reasons). Somthing Small efficant and cheap on inshurance while offering decent reliable A-B transportation.

Yu dont want a sports car for a first car. FIRST learn to drive and deal with the elements presented to you as a drive THEN get a nice car to have fun with. Try doing both at the same time and your likely to end up scrapping your EXPENSIVE ride.

But thats just my $0.02 even though you probly just read this laugh and do what ya want anyways LOL (been their done that)

I have owned two eclipses a 90 and 95 and the trannies suck in them. 2 trannies in the 90 and 1 in the 95 and stupid things going wrong with them left and right. I maintain my cars very well also. I don't beat the hell out of my cars or put 10k on my oil. So they definitely suck. Also, I knew people who owned them too who had the same problems with theirs. I also owned an 88 honda civic w/ 198k on it when I bought it in 2000. I had the eclipses first but ran into financial and drug problems and bought the civic for $150 off of my friend. It was supposed to be a temp car until I cleaned up my act and got out of trouble, but it lasted until early 03 when it finally threw a rod at 318k. To this day, that was the most reliable car I have ever owned. The mileage was great. It was cheap to fix and still had enough power until it died. And it was pretty good in the snow.

I've had two early 90's Grand Am's, and they are the worst cars ever.

                  Does that help?

Get a brand new Honda civic for about 13k. They look sharp... reliable... good gas mileage... and you get a WARRANTY.

Cheap - reliable - practical - warranty. Don't worry about cool factor until you've got at least 30k to spend... that 10k used sports car ain't that cool really.

Get a Hyundai or KIA...for under 15k you can get a brand new car with great gas mileage, awesome warranty (10 years, 100k miles), and lower insurance rates.

It's a car--designed to get you from A to B. Who cares what else it does...save all that muscle car racing crap for when you're on your own and can afford it.

Odds are in NJ, for first time drivers, that the car won't make past the first year.

So get something cheap. like 5k cheap, so if or when it gets totaled, you're not out 10k and only out a few.

If you can fix cars yourself, go old, (pre fuel-injection) so they are cheaper (and easier) to fix. If you can't fix cars, maybe it's about time you learned.

However, buying a car with a warrenty is also very nice. Balance that with the likelyhood of totaling the car.

Focus's are one of the most overpriced cars for what you are getting out there at this point. Give you an idea of dealer wholesale - I paid about 70% for my Taurus of what I did for a Focus that was 2yrs older and had the same mileage earlier this year. On the same day.
