Are you trying to get files copied off your computer, and then deleting them off of your hard drive? Zip disk, CD, DVD, or USB device will all pretty much work the same, depending on our computer and how much each device can hold and how much you need to transport.

I hope this is useful, sorry if its useless If you are going to back up the files on a zip disk, that will work just like a hd, cd, whatever as long as it isnt compresses. Any compression will have to be extrcted for I tunes to read. The fastest way would be to burn to dvds as far as I know.
Zip disks? Wasnt that Iomega or something? Are they new or old? Do they still make em? Ive got a old external somewhere...

Zip disks are so freaking slow.

Much faster to burn to DVD or buy a spare Hard Drive.

zip disk slow? no not really..burning to dvd is slow (at least bruning movies is) yea i want to put them on a zip disk and that compresses them then when i need them i want to unzip them (uncompress or expand) and then use them i just want to make sure it wotn take ours on end to do..and i wanna make sure it will work before i delete 700 something songs off of my computer and end up having to put them all back on ...no fun.

                  Do what I did.
Put them all on your iPod.
                  Delete from computer.
When you want them again, use an extracting program, such as Broken Helix if you're using a mac.
                  Easy.

MP3s are already compressed, so when you .zip them it's not going to make them all that much smaller.

Zip drives are small and slow. It would be much faster to just burn them to a DVD would be faster. Not just in the burning process, but also the restore process.

To be honest, for the price, the best thing to do is buy a 2nd hard drive and just put all your data on there and you won't have to worry about space.

It will work, just take a while.
So zips are running off the same ol platform? I know they came out with larger disks but are the drives any faster?
Dvds are slow to burn but fast to read once its outa the way. The compresion could take the most time, but I dont think you can even compress mp3 much more(Ive never tried)
It seems that you want to use your zips so rock on. If your worried, test it. .

Then just use multiple zip disks and don't try and compress them.

I would how ever make two copies. Any media can go bad and it's always a good idea to have at least two copies when archiving.
