    Linux version to use?

So I am finally breaking down and installing a linux server. I want to use it primarily as a file server, maybe a little basic programming for doing homework assignments. Given a 266mhz processor, 256meg of ram, 200 gig of hard drive space, what linux flavor do yall reccommend for a quick and easy install along with an easily settupable FTP server(or it also would be nice if I could just "mount" folders as drives on my Windows machines.

RedHat 9... I would suggest Fedora, but RedHat is a lot more stable... But yeah... RedHat 9 will suit your needs quite well.

if you have a fairly standard network card, id say find an older version of slackware, suse or mandrake.the new distributions are quite bloated. i have tried redhat 6, mandrake 9, debian and knoppix on my 266 and with a gui they are all slow. mandrake was actually the fastest. this is using KDE. if you want to go command line use anything you like. knoppix is a live cd distro but it recognized and configured every pc i put it on automatically without a hitch.

most distro's have samba in them. it is a windows file share server. so you can just map the drive from your pc

from the judge in the WDP v Sp case.... " i find it significant that aside from a somewhat limited notebook produced by gaston, the four named inventors offer NO documentation of there work or there contributions to the conception or reduction to practice of the claimed invention"
