    Resolution to my Dell laptop problems

    This computer was out to give me an annurism.

    First, the NIC died. An annoyance, but nothing huge. I bought an external card and things were working fine.

    Then, the A/C power adapter died. I'd plug it in, and it would beep at me. But that problem would tend to fix itself within a couple hours, so I wasn't TOO concerned about it, figuring I'd get it taken care of over Thanksgiving break in a few weeks.

    Oh yeah, Windows was tending to randomly crash, even after I tried Windows System Restores and the weird Dell PC Restore (I couldn't actually reinstall Windows, since Dell decided they don't like including Windows CDs with their computers when you buy them). And I got a blue screen of death once... that was almost surreal, I haven't seen one of those in years.

    Well, two days ago, the adapter died, and didn't come back. Last night I decided I'd call Dell today and yell at them until they sent me a new adapter (the whole system's under a full one year warranty, I bought penis it in August). Today, when I picked up the laptop to flip it over and find the service code on the bottom for when I called Dell, I felt something wet. After checking everything out real quick, I discovered that some sort of clear liquid was coming out of one of the vents in the back.

    *sigh*

    After an hour and a half on the phone with Alex, though, he decided Dell should send me a brand spanking new computer, same specs as this one. And a new power supply too. It'll be here within 7 days. It will include packaging to send my POS back to them, with a number to call somebody at DHL, who will pick it up from my door at no charge to me.

    So, as pissed as I am about all the problems, I'm still happy with Dell service. I'm not sure why anybody would care about this thread, but, there you are. (Except for Muzikman, he kept telling me to get a new one anyway... eh, next best thing, I guess.)

          i read your other posts about the problem and felt sorry for you. but i didn't have any new info to contribute, but glad to hear you are getting a new laptop. hopefully you won't have problems with it. also, are you sure your roommate isn't sabotageing it?

                    Is BTK gonna have to smack a biatch?

                    The machine didn't come on Friday. The confirmation call never came on Friday, either. The guy's exact words last time were "NO LATER THAN Friday, you'll get a conirmation call then."

                    Yesterday evening, I got a call from a lady that I could barely understand, here's basically how the conversation went (in a really really think Indian accent):
                    Her: "Hi, I just wanted to make sure your Dell computer is working alright now."
                    Me: "Uh... what? No, no it's not. I was supposed to receive a whole new machine no later than this past Friday, and it still hasn't come."
                    Her: "A... new... computer?"
                    Me: "Yes. *sigh* A whole new machine. I was told the one I have now is unsafe and needed to be replaced."
                    Her: "OH, yes, new machine, that should be there within the next two to three days... did you receive new A/C adapter?"
                    Me: "Yes, but, damnit, I still don't have a working computer!!"
                    Her: "Okay sir that will be there within two to three days FOR SURE, I'll just close this case... thank you!"
                    Me: *grumble grumble*

                    Once this crap does finally get here and I get that next call, I'm going to adamantly demand an extension on the warranty or something. This is getting RIDICULOUS.

                    Calling all Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and other east coast AOers...

                      yea i hate that i get some guy at hp (i have a compaq) my dvd drive was acting up and i get some guy name philip and im like sure your name is philip. well anywho at least he solved my problem.

                      my buds father is haveing crap with dell servise. hes laptop went to the craper and they wont even send him a replacement. they keep on sending him new crap to try to fix the problem like a HDD ( it crashed) then he sent it in to get all fixed up and loaded with the software and after he gets it back the dvd drive dosent pop open.

                      and they still wont do anything to help. we think they are tring to run the warentee out soo they have to pay for it to get fixd.

                      My compaq has never had this happen to me. some some errors wich we fix'd but really good customer service's of hp wich i think are the best i ever had (even wehn you cant understand them)

                        Good luck with that! I tried getting an extension to my warranty and was told that they couldn't do that. I told them that I wanted compensation for 4 weeks of lost computer time (long story)
                        So they asked me if I wanted a free digital camera.

                        Overall, I've been pretty satisfied with Dell's customer support. My biggest gripe is that you have to work your way through the language barrier for 4 hours before you can get them to understand what's going on.
                        I only buy EPP (employee purchase program) from them now--I get customer support from an American! Thanks Lockheed!

                        Oh, and Dell now charges you $8 if you want a CD copy of your OS--the PCs no longer come with them!

                          Yeah, that was a problem for me before my laptop TOTALLY crapped out. One of the problems was Windows acting up, and all I could try to do was that stupid "Dell PC Restore," which, of course, accomplished nothing.
