    Yamaha R6

Hey guys, Anyone in here own an R6? I'm seriously looking into an 06 model. They're just so sick looking. I was really considering an FZ6, but I'm starting to lean more towards the R6. My father has an FZ1 that I've put more than a few miles on and I enjoyed it (That's why I was considering the FZ6), but I just can't resist the R6. As soon as I saw a picture of it I messed myself. My local shops don't get them in till december, so I havn't actually seen one in person yet. I'm just looking for any input anyone's got.

    So sweet....

Wow, I'm not a bike person, but I have to admit, that bike is flippin sweet. It looks like it wants to pounce on you and cut you to ribbons or something.

i remember becoming interested in the 05 R6 from a thread on AO nearly a year ago. ive looked at bikes quite a bit considering i just got my motorcycle permit, but i still have no experience riding them and, unfortunately, have little knowledge of them. i would love to hear any personal experiences or opinions... as long as its not "get a harley" i pretty much have the same taste in bikes as you. so far ive been looking at ducati, BMW, yamaha, suzuki and honda.

one thing i do know, though, is that with things like this its not the best idea to buy new... unless youre loaded. look into getting one a year or so old used, or wait to buy this one used... but then again thats the point of model years i guess, if you wait until this bike drops in price, you'll want next years bike.

Anything not U.S. Made you can get cheaper. But as soon as you ride it off the lot it drops about 50-60% in value.
Thats why I only ride American made bike, I bought a Victory Cycles Hammer for 16,000.00.

I had a guy 2 weeks ago offer me 17,500.00 for it.

You can make it an investment, instead of a loss. ;-)

You mentioned some miles on your Dad's FZ1. Thats a liter bike, right?

I'd recommend a lot less heat if its your first bike. I'm looking into Honda Hawks (500cc twin), Suzuki Bandits (tame 600cc inline four) and Suzuki SV 650s (650 twin).

Then again, I'm a wuss. I've got several friends that ride sportbikes.
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.

              Good Choice

I own a Harley and a Ducati 996 and ride both as much as I can. I have been riding street bikes for 33 years now. I ride the Ducati more primarily because I ride alone (no passenger). If I am riding two up I will take the Harley, way more torque for the added weight.

The R6 is a great choice. Yamaha is the only Japanese bike I will consider owning. The best overall package. Kawasaki's are fast but not as relaible, Suzuki's are just plain ugly and I hate all Honda's both bikes and cars.

The bottom line is that all of the 600's are so close in performance that they are literaly splitting hairs. At that point, pick the bike that: A) feels the most comfortable underneth you and B) looks the best to you.

For the record, two years ago I bought my then, 16 year old son a Kawasaki Ninja 250 as his first street bike. With 2 years of regular street experience under his belt, he is now ready for a 600, his choice (and mine) will be the Yamaha R6. Hands down the best looking package. It was tough for him because he also likes the looks and feel of the Kawasaki ZX 6 RR.

Sorry for the rant but I am very passionate about motorcycles, my first love.

I say go bigger than a 500 - they are incredibly slow, unless u sit down to pee then maybe ok. The SV is a nice starter and a fun wheelier. Nice rider friendly twin power. The R6 is the ticket if thats what you want. The 600 4 cyl. are all tame bikes until u crack 9,000 rpm and up. But after riding 120 mph wheelies on r1's and 'busas they feel like weedwackers. The power will be pretty comparable to the fz1- a lil less torque and a lil more top end, and far better handling and flickability. As long as you respect the fact that pavement hurts while you get used to it then you will have no trouble. Oh did i mention how much chicks love them

My neighbor owns an 05 R6 which he has been gracious enough to allow me a few spins on. I have ridden for years and owned many a bike. The Yamaha feels and handles really well. It feels quite stable and is just insane fast. I like that fact that for a small bike it feels big, good for a fellow with a 6'+ frame. Based on my little experiance I think it would be a good choice.

I happen to currently own a Harley.....

Unless you are going to race it in the 600cc class, you might consider the 06 triumph daytona 675.

Much lighter and faster than previous daytona models, and I personally love the exhausts integrated underneath the tail.

It wouldn't be my first bike. it'd be my first fast bike though. My fathers FZ1 is the quickest bike I've really ridden. I've ridden that thing pretty hard before. I had actually considered the daytonas. There is a ducati/triumph place by me and I talked to them. They said the daytonas are gonna be hard to get, and they are out of my price range.

I've really got my heart set on an R6, but I am gonna go check out some CBRs. The riding season is pretty much over, so I won't have the "I want to get this bike and ride it right now!!" problem.
