Laptop recommendations

I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for school (word processing, internet, email, so on) and also a little gaming (doesn't have to have AMAZING specs).

I've been considering Powerbooks, but I don't know what PC laptops to look at. I don't want to spend over $2000...any recommendations? Also it must have a warranty service and no I will not build my own.

I use an HP pavilion zt3000. It is powerful enough to run games up to Unreal Tournament 2004. Any games that need more resources than that it's not too good.
I bought it 2 yrs ago and it's still running great.

i just got my laptop from compaq and i must say i love it. i would like more a hardcore gameing system but it dose well for now

this lappy would be perfect for you for school work and stuff like that and a little gaming

i can play counter strike souces preaty well and half life 2 ok. not the best but its good enough not to bother you.

there is a newer laptop out for compaq that has a better video card for a little more

I was a PC user for years and on the recomendation of a friend, I went to a PowerBook G4 from Apple.

DAMN! That thing is the best laptop I have ever had. For what you said you use it for, you can;t go wrong in my option.

At least go to an apple store if you have one around and check them out. The design and the OS are very nice.

Yes i have to agree with him^ on THIS subject ive had my powerbook for a a few months and i LOVE it!!!! It is wonderful...however you have to be willing to make the switch from win to mac... but imo its well worth it

I bought a new laptop this last year and have been very happy with mine; got a Fujitsu N series Lifebook. Top quality product without paying the higher cost of some brands like Sony. Beautiful 17" LCD display and nice graphics so playing the latest video games is also possible. I upped mine with some extra RAM and it still came in just under $2K. The comparable Sony version was over $3K.

for what you just told me, im going to have to reccomend a toshiba portege. its a tablet pc. meaning, the screen rotates and you are able to take notes on it. its an awesome feature, that i completely reccomend whole heartedly. it can run games, and quite well, and it has amazing wireless opportunities. i highly reccomend this laptop.

If you go the Apple route (which I would suggest if you can do with out the games) look at the ibooks. They are significantly cheaper than the powerbooks, with minimal loss of features. I love the powerbooks (and I have one, so does my wife), but were I to buy new, I would strongly consider an ibook.

As for the PC vs Mac deal, I would suggest a Mac for a number of reasons. The only real negative is the lack of games for OSX. If you are going to be doing any programming the tools on OSX are great, and free.

Heh, that's my setup too. Gonna need a G5 soon, Aperture is my dream come true, cept for the hardware requirements. Figure a DVI/USB KVM and I can keep the gaming machine and G5 on one KB/Mouse/LCD setup.

I've had two friends that have had problems with toshiba. One of them the Back light to the lcd kept going on it. It seemed every other month it was sent back for repairs before they admitted to a defective product. And the second one just would not boot up. I'm not sure what the heck happened with that one.

Just my experience with the products.

I am using an HP dv134o. It is great. It has a fair amount of power for its size, I play WoW on it and Call of Duty. It comes loaded with neat features like lightscribe, it has fully integrated wireless and bluetooth. It is also a bit more compact with a decent battery life. I think its a 12.3 inch screen, but its a really nice screen. I say go HP
