"Unlocking" A Cell Phone? Treo 650 Specifically

I am looking at getting a PalmOne Treo650 from officemax.com who has them the cheapest anywhere... But they use Earthlink as the service, which is why they are so cheap.

Earthlink is CDMA as is VERIZON, shouldnt I be able to unlock the Earthlink Phone for use with Verizon?

You would need to get the unlocking code from Earthlink. I have a Treo 600 from T-mobile but needed to unlock mine so that I cound use an Iraqi SIM card in it. I just called them and they emailed me what I needed.

So what should I say, "Hello, I reciever a Earthlink Treo650 as a gift, the person didn't know I didnt have Earthlink and now the place refuses to allow me to return it. My Cellular service is Verizon, is there any possible way you could email me the codes to unlock the phone for Verizon compatability.

If you position yourself correctly when speaking to the phone company, they will give you whatever you need. You just have to get yourself the correct angle when calling. There are some phone companies, such as Cingular and I believe TMobile, will give you the unlock code to use their phones on another network. If you do not feel comfortable calling the cell phone company and trying your luck with your social engineering skills, or lack thereof, you may want to resort to an online forum.

They'll probably try to get you to switch over if you say that.

Call verizon data services, NOT THE NORMAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, tell them you have a 650 from earthlink and want to switch to verizon. They usually bend over backwards trying to get your phone to work. You may just have to buy it and take it to a verizon store to get it reprogrammed, but you need to check.

Just call them, they will tell you...my service provider told me and they knew I would not be using their service.

Shooter, but you are pretty sure the a Eartlink CDMA phone will work with Verizon CDMA?

Yeah, earthlink has a virtual network, they're just a reseller. (they don't actually own their own network). If you make a call on "Earthlink" you're actually using either sprint or verizon.
