    Any Mac fans on here?

    Well I got my new toy last night;

    17" PowerBook G4 ....

Big switch going from many years using WinBlow$ to OSX ... did it most because of the BSD backend on OSX, so I love the command line interface. Just going to have to get use to a new filesystem structure.

Coming from a Unix world which is what I have worked on for most of the past 6-7 years (Linux/Solaris/HP-UX) the command line portion of OSX is nice ... just need to get use to the user interface now.

Now any hard core Mac users here got a list of must have software that I should check out.

Also any recommended keyboards / mice? When its at home it will rest on my desk and share my other 17" LCD panel which should make for a nice desktop ... but I want a nice mouse / keyboard for use at those times also.

the apple keyboard and mighty mouse are great...but it takes any USB keyboard/mouse and if it has bluetooth, will take them too.

    must have software....

limewire if you want a p2p
transmit is the best FTP program
mactheripper rips DVDs to your HD
    Toast Titanium
VLC media player (plays all avis, wmv, mov, etc)
    play with the dashboard widgets

pages and keynote arn't that good imo...i'd stick with microsoft, but the iLife suite is very nice

Really depends on what you intend to do with the machine.

            My must haves are:
            Photoshop
            Office
            OmniGraffle Pro
Canon tools (comes with the DSLRs)
            iPhoto
            Delicious Library

I keep my PC around for gaming, so no real games on the PB. Hopefully soon I'll be getting a G5, with that I will be getting Aperture. With Apature I'll prob not be using iPhoto much.

Check out xcode, that's cool (and on your OS dvd).

Yeah I have a copy of the most recent MacroMedia Suite ... havent really touched it when I had the PC version so not sure if I will use it on my mac either. Going to get an external firewire drive to install apps on that I dont need on a daily basis.

Yeah xCode looks kind of fun to play with ... might screw around with it some.

Mac Evangelist here. Big time. Best thing I have ever done for my school is to bring in iBook mobile labs and iMac computer labs. I was never a windows fan. I've been using Apple computers since the Apple II and have never strayed too far. OSX really brought Apple mainstream.
