Star Wars Galaxies "2"- 10 Day Free Trial

This is just a notice for those who might have been interested in starwars galaxies, but never tried it.

For those who have previously, its nothing like you've played before.

The game is still the same 'ol Galaxies rpg mmo, but the combat works like a first person/third person shooter somewhat, so the combat is 500x faster then previously.

If you havent heard, yes you can start out as jedi from the start. no, you cant use a saber till a little down the road. Jedi dont "pwn" all other professions though as you might have thought. Its pretty evenly matched

Heres a quick rundown of the new professions:
-Officer- Uses npc troops, and can call in support ships to help in combat or outside with supplies

-Bounty Hunter- Hunts npc jedi and smugglers

-Smugglers- "Dirty fighters" Mixed of melee and pistols

-Commando- Heavy weapons and range of damage types (Flame throwers, acid throwers ect...)

-Trader- Armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, architechts, droidsmiths, spaceship crafters

    -Jedi- Melee, force using

-Entertainer- they.. entertain... actually very profitable with credits and buffs

-Spy- Ranged, Stealth and Sneak, steal loot, assassinate

-Politicians- They lie (really, they run player cities)

So if you like really fast paced combat, but the awsomeness of a mmo, try it out.

Feel free to post any questions, im ConnaisLupus on the server Tempest.

You know, I have been wanting to try it out. I've got to tear myself away from Battlefront 2 first...

I'm trying it right now..and after being a heavy WoW user I have to say that this game really underwhelms...there isn't anything I can say that I like about it other than it's free...I hope I don't feel this way when I start playing City of Villains/Heroes after Christmas...

Yeah... aside from having the whole starwars thing going for it, wow is better. Interface is just so much clearer, it doesnt look like crap, and its a lot more social. So far galaxies has been pretty much like a 1 player game with the glitchiness and lag that comes with playing online. Oh and Ive seen some people walking around that I guess are other players but I havent figured out how to interact with them yet.

Ok for those who don't know anything about the game, I'll explain a bit. It came out late june 2003. Back then it was a fun game. All though it was a tad buggy, the game was really fun to play and they continued to make improvements over the months. Fast forward to late spring 2005 and they release this thing called the combat uprade, which was really a downgrade and it completely sucked and it seemed as though they were trying to make it more WOW-like. Lots of players quit over this although some liked it.

Now here we are, november 2005 and they have just released this new thing which completely blows and I'd say 50-75% of the population is quitting and the game is completely worthless now so don't waste your time with it.

It's been hemoraging players since launch. Which is pretty incredible considering the built in SW fan base. Out of the two dozen clan members of mine that bought the game at release, 2 made it longer than 3 months. Neither of which still hold an open account.

You're almost right, but the game was actually never really fun. The only fun I ever had in the game was hanging around and being a jerk with my guild, since we were the most powerful, had the most players and the best player city, the whole server was pretty much under our control, so we did stupid things like capture jedi on balconies and gather crowds to mock them and have untrained rocket pistol duels in Coronet (then I got told off by a GM). The fact is that SOE are a terrible company and just couldn't keep on top of the emergant imbalances of the game, before the cu (and before I stopped playing), the massively overpowered professions would be teras kasi (hand to hand fighters) using extremely high quality, speed sliced vibro knucklers which would allow a player to spam specials and utterly decimate anyone extremely quickly, then later it was combat medics, who could craft poison grenades that did massive damage over time to the mind pool (The only stat pool that could not be easily healed) and also splash damage! SCORE! Suddenly a fight consisted of throwing a couple of your aids grenades, getting killed by the actual fighters, then respawning, by the time you'd get back to the fight almost everyone infected would be dead and you'd be the pvp king!

Towards the end of my gaming period, they would spend massive ammounts of time and updates making Jedi better, which was astoundingly retarded since at the time jedi's in the game were less than 1% of the population and already massively overpowered, albeit buggy as hell.

The two things that were actually good about Starwars Galaxies were the crafting system, which was pretty in depth because of the ability to customise and the effect different quality materials had on the quality of the built item and the character customisation, which allowed you to control lots of different aspects of your characters appearance, which was pretty rad.

                      .
I disagree with a lot about this. TKA's were not overpowered by a longshot, as they did kinetic damage and if you were a good pvper your armor would be 90% resist to everything, except stun which would be 40%, and you would have nice PSG's which would add resists. So basically they did no damage at all. Combat medics were a little overpowered at first but as long as you had doctor in your template or a few docs in your group they were fine. Also later they added area cure disease/poisons so having doc in your template was less of a neccesity as long as you had 1 or 2 good docs in your group.
It is true that there some professions taht sucked in pvp but as long as you chose the right professions to be it was really fun. All I did was pvp and I always had a lot of fun. Sometimes groups would roll with a ton of jedi which was kind of unfair, as ranged classes could do nothing to them, but someone with a good melee build could easily take a jedi on.

BTW my template was master rifleman, enough doc to cure my poisons/diseasees/fires, and enough CM to heal peoples minds(think i was one of the few CMs who didnt use poisons or anything, just mind heal).
