For those of who that have had it, what can you tell me about it? I am looking at getting it before next season starts. How much was yours (I know it will vary but would like a rough idea)? Any issues I should be aware of that you had? Healign times? etc. I have the write ups on the web but first hand experiences tend to be more accurate.

My dad had it done about a year ago and his eyes havn't fallin out yet
But it only took a few hours for the operation. then he had to wear an eye protection thing for a couple weeks. Afer that he said it was still a little fuzzy but it got better eventually. Had to go back to get a touch up. Nothing serious though. Anywho, once the eye patch comes off (not quite like a pirates unfortunately) then you have to apply eye drops for a few months. But he says it's very much worth it. as for price... I'm not sure but it was up there.
Anyway, if you got anything out of that that is of some use then cool. But all is well and no problems with it.Comment

I had it done several years ago, $2300 for both eyes. The procedure tokk all of 12 minutes. They gave me a mild sedative to induce sleep and after my nap I walked out to my porch (i was living in an apartment at the time) and I could read license plates on cars from 100 feet away. My vision was 20/300 and 20/400 prior to the surgery, now i'm 20/20. I was driving the same night with only a minor haze or halo around streetlights. The glow went away after a couple of months. I have not had any problems o complications from the procedure at all and I easily consider it the best money i have ever spent.
The company I used was LasikPlus. I believe they are countrywide but am not totally sure. Check around your area and talk to people that have had it done. My brother had it done just before I had by the same company which is why I went with them. I hope this helps and good luck.

I've been thinking of getting this done, too... It's nice to know that Boston is an area that excels in this field -- lots of reputable hospitals up here.

My step-dad had it done about 4-5 years ago not long after they offered it to the public or atleast not long after it was big or what not..anyway like the duelist said it takes all of 12 minutes or less its a really fast procedure, your eyes get dry so you have to keep eyedrops with you for sometime not sure exactly how long, but immediatly after the operation they will have you read an eye chart and you should notice the difference...my step-dad has been glasses free for awhile now and loves it.Comment

I have such great vision, that if it were any greater, I would be able to see into the future.
Growing up, I would always get yelled at for pointing lasers into others eyes, as well as my own. So I have it burned into my brain (and retinas) to not have lasers in my eyes. A lot of these LAZER EYE places show some special with one eye free?
Wouldn't you want to have one eye done at a time, in case they FUBAR something, it will be only one eye? Then you could wear a silly eyepatch, and tell everybody you were in a duel with lasers.Comment

wow... hmm, coincidence.
/my mom just had lasik this morning
//i guess ill tell you in a few days
when you get it you cant use that eye for a little while, maybe a few hours. you have to wear a weird patch over it.
ive also heard that it can reduce your perception of shades of grey.Last edited by slade; 12-08-2005, 02:47 PM.Comment

I am also wondering about some of the side effects...esp the halo effect it has on lights at night. Has there ever been a case where this was a permanent side effect?"I just came for your mayonaise." ~ TooDamnSweet

There's a new technique out that minimizes the risk of halo effects after having the procedure. My understanding is that the halo has to do with the type of laser that is used. If the doctor your going to is worth anything he will be familiar with it. As with anything you shouldn't go into the surgery blind (pun intended). Do your research and talk to people who have had it done. Stick with a reputable eye surgeon and do your homework. You may find out your not even a canidate for the surgery. If you are though, it will be money well spent.

I'm supposed to have it done in February on my right eye. My left eye is 20/20 but my right eye is 20/300. My right eye has been horrible since I can remember. My optometrist said it happens to some people. I can only read the big "E" with my right eye. I am kind of worried to get it done being I've grown accustomed to life with a bad eye. I'm afraid it might screw up my depth perception or something.Comment

*shrugs* My uncle got it done there for cheaper than any place he could find here in the US. Maybe he's just an idiot though.Originally posted by tranmanAnd why would he go to Canada for it? Didn't really read it, but I wish I could get Lasik. I have not ever successfully gotten a contact in, and I broke my sweatshop Nike glasses today.

I did look and it appears slightly cheaper, however there are far too many visits before and after to make travel to Canada realistic for meOriginally posted by Will Wood*shrugs* My uncle got it done there for cheaper than any place he could find here in the US. Maybe he's just an idiot though.
