And he lives about 30 minutes away .. so
Yea, I guess it can be unrealistic then.
But everyone I've heard who has had it done loves it.

My friend got it done about 2 years ago, he is happy with it but was not so immediately. Don't expect to walk out of surgery and suddenly have 20/20 vision. I believe there is also a possibility of having to redo the surgery later also.

From what I understand, there are different kind of "lasik" surgeries. One of them cuts a flap in the cornea, and one cuts the cornea differently. I don't know the exact details, but talk to your doctor about it-- if you do contact sports at all, one of these is recommended more than the other. We had a guy in jiu jitsu who had lasik and came back too early... and the flap they had cut in his cornea hadn;t healed completely, so it flapped open, like a blister. Needless to say... it was not pretty. Do your homework. Go in to see doctors with questions and expect straight answers.

I had it done 3 years ago. It's great . I see 20/15 now. The doc overcorrected a bit, but it's no big deal.
The day after the lasik, my eyes itched so bad. They give you some steriod drops to keep them wet. When ever you feel like your eyes are just a bit dry or feel like they are scratchy, just flood them with drops. The itching goes away after just a few days.

Get it done by a doctor that will let you research references. Call them and ask about the doctor.
I also used an ey hospital to get it done. They seem to have more experience than the optometrists.

I had it done a year and a half ago by Boxer-Wachler. They over corrected my right eye, so I had them re-cut it 3 months later and things have been fine since, even during the pepper spray.

In California, at least, they are obligated to treat you for a full year after the procedure, to include "touch-ups" and regular visits.

The worst part was when they vacuumed my eye flat to cut the flap. The cut didn't hurt, but I was totally unprepared for the vacuum.

My GF had it done, and she couldn't be happier. I guess personal experiences aren't going to be the same, but she sees 20/20 now and had no problems.

The thing that disturbs me is you are awake, and have to stare at a little red dot, and if you move your eye, it screws up the surgery. And you can sorta feel it. That'd freak me out. They give you some drugs to keep you calm but still. That just aint right.

You don't have to keep your eye utterly still. They place a ring around your eye, against which some aligning lasers reflect. The cutting laser only fires when your eye is aligned.

I had a scratch on my cornea once. Does that count?

I thought about having it done. My dad works at a place where they offer free lasik as part of their health coverage. Also get fairly cheap contacts too....but I don't want no stormtrooper blastering my eyeball just yet.

Well just make sure they dont use the force when doing the surgery.
