    iTunes alternatives?

OK, So I am getting an iPod for x-mas from my folks.. I have started to get my mp3's in order, so it should be an easy transition. I would also like to start ripping my existing CDs to mp3 (at a decently high bitrate -- 192kbps min) as I go along... I installed iTunes to see how the program worked and to be honest, I wasn't too keen on the interface.. I hear the iPod plug-in for Winamp rocks but I really have no information on it -- Anyone want to give me some insight?

for me, windows media player works fine. its free, simple, works good, and there are frequent updates.

it can do anything those other programs do except for download. for that use limewire, that is only if you have previously bought that song in a store

my wife and I use Napster in addition to iTunes, I'm not certian to what extent napster operates without paying for it, since we pay for it, but it does the job quite well. Not only will it deal with your own MP3's but if you'd like you you can download unlimited songs for your iPod, with some exceptions.

The BEST ripper program I have ever found (and it's now free) is called Audiograbber. Just google that and let me know if you can't find it.

As for library management and all the work of getting your files into great organization, iTune's is about the best thing to use is you plan on an iPod. WMP and others are ok, too, but I like the management of iTunes best.
