What kind of religion are you?

This is purely out of curiosity on my part. I don't care why you believe in what you believe in, or what the specific religion is. I just am curious as to what version of "God" people believe in. I'll throw Hinduism up there since it can't really be clasified as Polytheistic or Monotheistic. While its many gods suggest it to be Poly, the idea of Brahmin as the divine reality is very Mono. Anyway, go ahead and vote, and tell me if I missed your particular type of religion. Also, if you don't know what a word means, you probably aren't that religion.

    I'm deistic by the way.

    Ciao,
    Pete

Formally, Hinduism is considered Polytheistic. The Brahmin and the other gods and godesses are by definition a polytheistic religion. Doesn't really matter one way or another though.

What form of deism do you hang your hat on?

Hahaha, not quite. Deism states that God is more of a divine system or clock-work that we are a part of. It's very "quantum physics". I don't belong to any particular sect, I don't even know of any. I'm still exploring it honestly, but it's the most in sync with what I believe. I do know I don't believe in that Voltaire style deism where God is the clock-maker who just steps back and lets everything happen. I'm more into the idea that everything belongs to a kind of cosmic/mathematic system and that the system ("God") is still present and active in everyday life.

Hitech, cmon. Even a big math and science wiz like you has to have learned something about sociology or religion or something. Are you serious or are you just kidding? It's kind of hard to tell over the net lol.

Steelrat, ya know... that was almost passed as real religion. That'd be pretty much Hindu anyways.

Boski, it depends what source you're reading from. There are experts who will classify it as an in between, a monotheistic religion, or a polytheistic religion. It's hard to distinguish it. You're view on it is very true. But those who see it as monotheistic have a really good point as well.

I am surprised that I got a Pantheistic vote. Who was that if you don't mind telling? I change my mind on what I said initially, what kind of pantheism do you follow?

This is a good way of doing this sort of thread.

Let me do some research on the different schools of Deism and get back to you. But as you point out there are different thoughts on the idea of Deism. Jefferson was a Deist and so was CS Lewis before "he saw the light" of Christianity.

Congrats for thinking out your faith. It is the biggest question there is-if you real think it out.

You might want to add Science as a religious faith. To here some people talk about science, you would think that it is the only source of "enlightenment" and truth in the world. They have faith that their ideas are 100% correct, even when scientific thought is by nature dynamic and thoughts once held to be universal truths are disproven a few years later.
