denzel washington helps out our troops in a big way

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio.

A true American and friend to all in uniform!

i got this info in an email .. figured i would share

it's about time i saw some good news during the holidays

Mr. Washingtom donated around $10,000, NOT for a complete house.

Very good deed regardless, and he also went up large points with me.

Agreed. There's no reason to take the thread off topic with a useless post.

            anyway on another note...

I didn't know denzel washington was big on giving charity, but the actual list of charities that he has donated to is quite impressive.

                Denzel Story

Old news. I have seen this before. I got hit with that email this was part of way back in march.

Good that he did visit the troops like that though.

I believe he was refering to the way that the troops of vietnam were treated when they came back home.

He said we need to support our troops instead of booing them.

I was just a tike during Vietnam. One of my uncles who served (I have many!) did two tours in Infantry without a scratch and returned to the US. On his way home was shot in the neck and paralyzed for the remainder of his life. Helluva return.

                          similar story:

oldest brother did a year as a crew chief/door gunner on a huey. wrecked his car after being home for 2 weeks and has been brain damaged and in need of constant care since 1966.

next oldest brother did a tour w/ the 101st. didn't get a scratch in combat. was bringing a truck to the rear to get repairs and hit a mine. still has shrapnel in him to this day.

This was a great thing. But it happened a long time ago.

"While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build.

A true American and friend to all in uniform!"
