Theres four slots total, two sets of two, the left slot is blue and the right black; the blue in both sets occupied, the black unoccupied, but they look the same. so the configuration is occupied, unoccupied, (space) occupied, unoccupied. it says the computer can hold a max of 2GB ram, so im guessing each slot can hold one stick of 512 mb. But what would i do to add ram to the current configuration? do i always have to have ram in pairs? could i add two sticks of 512 mb, and keep the two sticks of 256 mb, for a total of 1.5 Gb, or would all the sticks have to be the same size? if they could be different sizes, would the larger size sticks have to be in a certain place?

im not sure exactly what motherboard i have, but it came with my sony VGC-RB53. on the motherboard it says "intel desktop board" and then "D915GRO/D915PRO/D915GVRO" im not sure if thats the model number or what. i couldnt find much on google.
issue solved. after i figured out sony's website was trash, and the manual supposedly on my computer didnt exist (at least where it was supposed to) i called customer support and got my answer, any configuration will work. the reason im posting though is they have the automated message and menu whenever you call a company, but half way through the menu i got the message "we are currently having problems with our computer, and you will be transfered to an agent". i was like... thats reassuring... im calling you for help with the computer you sold me, but yours isnt even working?

soon ill have an eVGA GeForce 6800 256 MB ram PCI-e video card, 1 GB corsair ram, and... a $4 mouse

when you install windows xp it should ask you what format you wanna use. i'm using xp pro and when i installed it asked if i wanted ntfs or fat32. i'm using 32. also, i've done the dual boot and i couldn't access the windows drive/partition at all when in linux and vice versa. not sure if it was cause of the crapp lindows i was using.

i couldnt even install it myself it came pre-installed on my computer. so im stuck with NTFS. im going to be using ubuntu. from what i read i should be able to read files from the windows partition while in ubuntu, although i wont be able to write to that partition. i should be able to read and write to the linux partition while in windows.

The TT case was literally the best one out there for the price range I was aiming for. All the other cases had a cheap plastic look to them and smaller. There was an Antec case but it looked way to much like my old case. Plus, it was like $40 bucks after rebates and stuff. With the heat sink, I'm using the oem for right now. I'm waiting for my brother to go to Taiwan to do some work for his job. I was looking at the Zalman CNPS9500, which should be really cheap out there.

lol, i'm not really that serious about the TT case anyway. Just giving you flak because tt sucks. I'd go for the cnps9500 too. I mean just look at mango's system. Ain't it sexy?

If you go with watercooling, hook it up outside of the case first to check for leaks. Also, what's the specs for your system? You should be also to upgrade to a better HSF like the Zalman 9500. I'd also suggest using pricegrabber to check for the lowest price.

You won't get much benifit from watercooling with those kits. I'd either reccomend a high end air heatsink (such as the zalman cnps9500 or thermalright xp120) or a higher end external kit (such as the koolance exo2) or if you have experience working on computers you can get an internal kit (such as the swiftech apex kit or a corsair kit (which is a lower end swiftech kit repackaged))
