    Music help

I picked up a DVD with a bunch of old promo videos on it, one song is by Oui 3 called "For What It's Worth" Now the song although a sort of rap record is based on a 60's/70's tune so much so it lifts at least half of the vocals...ok the question is ...what is the original song it is based on?
I have it tucked away somewhere but I can't remember what it is I only know I own it because listening to it I remember thinking "Hey thats the sample that Oui 3 used".

If it is any help one line is basically "You'll never get to heaven with AKA 47's" I am thinking Dylan but certainly of that era if it isn't Dylan.

I have no idea who Oui 3 is, but Buffalo Springfield did a song called "For What it's Worth". It's actually still sung at Crosby Stills and Nash shows. That would be the correct time period.

Ok we are halfway there, Buffalo Springfield is the main song that the Oui 3 version is based on but the "rap" about the AKA 47's is the other bit ....so must be another song. A bit like Red Mountain did a combo of "Baby I Love Your Way" and "Wide World" in the 80's.

So we are close but not quite there.....incidently the Buffalo Springfield is on the Forest Gump Soundtrack, having the correct name helps when you are looking for something and to be fair it isn't the sort of track I would play everyday so that was why I couldn't recall the artist.

As for who Oui 3 are ..they still sort of exist as they do have a Greatest Hits CD out

Well, I'm not sure about the Ak47 part, but if it's Dylan could it be Knocking on Heavens Door? In that song it does talk about Heaven and guns (though not an AK47). Guns -n- Roses did a very popular cover of it. There have been many other bands cover the song as well.

I thought of that.."Knocking on Heaven's Door", but I knew it wasn't that, plus I have 3 versions of that song, Dylan G&R and A Scottish teacher who did a version to help to raise money for the Kids that got shot in Dunblane (cause of our handguns being banned)

I have the other song listed on that link on a compilation CD from the time, it isn't difficult to find but then I guess if you know where to look it is easy.
