since this LCD monitors resolution is 1440x940, how do i find out if my video card can support this resolution??

Go to the properties of your current video card and assuming you actually have the software that came with the card installed look at the other refresh rates and resolutions are in the drop down list, some will work on your current monitor but asssuming the numbers you are looking for are there then you will be good to go. What you intend to do with your new monitor might prove to be a little much for that video card, but it kicks my video cards butt...having said that I don't do any video work or gaming so I can live with it.

Go into the nvidia display settings and look under desktop resolutions and see if its supported. I'd walk you through it but I just switched to an ATI card so I uninstalled the nvidia drivers.
