meh, I'd be cautious of anybody wanting you to ship an item to africa. usualy (from what I understand), they pay you through some phony site, you ship the item out immediatly as promised to the location in africa. Then you discover that the money you "recieved" through the site isn't really there, and you're SOL. I think that's how it works.

    But yeah, be cautious.

Yeah pretty much I have cut my allowed payment types to only USPS money order, or Paypal and many times I even dread using paypal. With all the scams and such out there I have had to do that, along with no longer shipping anything outside of the US.

Dude...this is a major scam. It is another variant of the "Nigerian Scam". IF he sends you a money order, it will be fake. More than likely, he will tell you that the money order is on its way, or he will give you a phony confirmation number. He will then beg, plead, order, and/or demand that you send the item. My wife started selling lingerie and electronics on Ebay, and people were trying to scam her everyday. And one thing they had in common...most of them were from Nigeria, and ALL of them were from Africa. Another thing they all had in common: their spelling SUCKED, or they were severely lacking in English skills.

the payko site seems legit, just cash the check before your stuff leaves.

Don't even try seeing if it works out.

I'd be willing to bet they will do exactly as others mentioned. Say a money order is on its way, demand you ship it and if you don't then they will tarnish your good name. They'll have plenty of time to keep demanding you ship it while you wait for the MO because they never sent it in the first place.

Report this person to EBay and they should delete their account. First of all, they are going around the auction format, which is against EBay rules. It shows every sign of a scam and Ebay is smart enough to put the effort into getting rid of these pieces of trash.

I told my wife to include in her listings, a paragraph stating that she will not ship to Africa and why. When my wife first started selling items on ebay, she would have someone try to go around every auction she started. Everytime she listed an item, someone from Africa would try to scam her. Eventually, they stopped doing it, mainly b/c she stood her ground and refused to ship the goods until she got paid. I think these pieces of trash hunt for new sellers, then barrage them with offers. The sad part is, I am pretty sure that somebody on ebay had fallen for the scam. They will eventually stop sending you messages once they get the idea that you are not going to fall for their crap.

I'm not saying that this isn't a scam, but not all buyers from Africa are bad guys. I sold my IR3 to a guy in South Africa. He paid throught Bidpay, everything was ligit, everything went smoothly. Shipping was a nightmare, but he paid all the costs. Rys Mossum, nice guy- still have some contact with him on occasion with regards to the leagues over there.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that not everyone from Africa is out to get you.

I'm sure this is true, but the fella you sold to probably completed the auction through e-bay. These guys are talking about the scammers who try to circumvent the bidding/paying process in one way or another.

There has also been a wide rash of scmas in which typical overseas online escrows have been faked and no funds ever actually received even though your account said the funds were received. This was not just an Africa thing but international in general.

Receiving overseas payments are fine, but ensure that the payment actuallys clears before you ship your goods. Even domestic casiers checks and money orders can be fake, ensure the payments clear befor you ship if you want to play it safe.
