Hate having to choose between a PC and XBox360?

You might not have to. I don't know if this information has gotten out yet, but MS is working on a version on windows that will run on the 360, so the 360 can be used as a PC.

    Link?

Until then, I doubt it. It may have the capability's of a PC but running windows XP is something it will never be able to do. It will not be able to run any windows Games apps etc, because of its design. The Xbox 360 is based of the Power PC architecture IBM processor and design. Normal Windows PCs are based off of the x86 architecture. Very different. I guess you may be able to run a version of Linix/Unix/MacOS of a xbox 360 But i doubt it. They may have an add on for the xbox so you can browse the web, but i doubt you will get anything more advanced than that.

There is no link. The info was given to me by someone who would know, but obviously I wasn't supplied with any physical proof. I can't even guarantee it will be released, but its definately something they are working on.

I'm not a programmer, so I can't even guess how it would work, but if MS can make their stuff run on the Mac OS, I'm sure they can make it work.

MS has Office and out of date versions of Media Player and IE for OSX, nothing else. That's a far cry from OS like windows on Power PC. Office on OSX is a Carbon app (an Apple API). I'm pretty sure you will never see a version of Windows on the XBOX 2pi that will run normal apps.

Hey, I'm only passing on what I've heard. It's from a very reputable source. I'll try to contact them to firm up the details about what apps it will run.

from what ive heard, xbox 360s are crashing enough... do they really have to try to make it worse?

hmm, linux would be a nice idea though...

I have a 360, and it is nice when they work. Everyone I know has the same problem. Out of every four times you play, the system loses track of the disc and you have to restart at least once.

I don't know much about the Xbox 360 but, the original Xbox ran on a a heavily modified Win2000 kernel. I'm thinkin pretty much the same would go for the 360, you can run some apps on the 360 though.

No they are made for a specific CPU, IBM's PowerPC, and even that proc is non-standard I think as IBM cators to specific needs.

For me, this is a no brainer. If I want to run apps, I'd buy a PC. I don't play PC games anymore cause I just don't have the time as PC games tend to require lots of time dedication and more involved. I play games on my consoles but only about an hour or so at a time. But that's just me.

I guess you'd have to list down the pros and cons for the PC and 360. What is it you're really interested in using them for. Dell's got some really good deals on cheap PCs that run about as much as a 360 for a complete system. My guess is, if you want to use the 360 for apps, you'd probably have to sink more money into modding it out and as of right now, the 360 isn't very stable right now because of overheating and disk tray issues. So why bother?

As far as the overheating, people need to stop cramming them into small enclosed spaces. Those bad boys need to breathe.

That is true. But MS had to develop a new system to run on power pc arcatecture. Supposedly the firmware, for the xbox and 360 is supposed to be pretty similar, and with the original firmware now cracked, the 360 my be cracked soon.
