    stockmaking tips

So I have a somewhat old school stevens 20 gauge side by side shotgun that has a cheesy "synthetic" stock on it that has begun to come loose. I figured id scrap that almost useless plastic one and make a nice wood one and wondered if you guys had any sites or books i could check out for some tips? oh and this shotgun has some sentimental value so im not up for scrappin it and buyin a new one.

IMO...your best option would be to send the old stock to a gunsmith and have him make a copy out of a hardwood of your choice...It'll be a lot easier, and you won't have to worry about learning how to carve wood.

Your other best bet would be to find someone with a copy turning lathe and mock up your synthetic stock in that...and just carve out the internals by yourself...

thats just my opinion...carving wood is hard, and if the gun has sentimental value to you, you're going to want it to look nice, and without sculpting experience...no offense...I don't see you doing that...

Good Luck to a fellow gun lover...

Put a pistol-grip on it and saw it off - Mad Max style!

Does it have exposed hammers? I love those...
My best advice would be to search Google for Stevens/Savage and look for a direct replacement. Do you happen to know the model number?
