    New Ride for the Fred

    2006 Volkswagen GTI Mark V

200 hp, 206 lbs of torque, out of a 2.0 Liter turbo with direct injection. 6-speed manual. (whoah how did I screw that one up? I'm fired...)

This car is SO much fun...

Looks really nice and sounds like it should be a blast to drive.

I thought they came standard with a 6 spd. Those are quite nice though. Slap the euro springs on it if you get the chance, that fender gap makes it look like a rally car. Oh and be sure and check back with the dealer in a month or two, word on the street is VW is going to be reflashing the ECU's on the 2.0t cars for an extra 30 horsepower, free of charge.

Vee Dubs rule. I'm more of a classic VW fan though. Type I circa 1966 - one day, it will be mine!!

            73 over here.

not much of a fan of the looks on that Golf though, looks too civic-ish for my tastes. but congrates on your fine german enginering purchase though

Very nice should got the Diesel though. MAy be slower stock but theirs ALOT of stuff that can be done to make em even Quicker and the added beniit of 60mpg makes it all worth it.

I had a 1986/87 and really miss that car truly just a fun car to drive. Took it on a road rally last year and did really well for haveing the lowest hp oldest car and only one their with no power steering LOL.

Mine had a 1.6 NON TURBO Diesel making a whole 52hp LOL had no power steering, no nothing not even a radio lol. My bro needed a cheap car as his 03 VW TDI was costing too mutch in inshurance so i lent him mine as i did not need it.

Only diff between the Euro and American GTI this year is the lack of:

                -tire pressure sensors
-launch assist on US version with DSG tranny

-US version is 1/2" higher ride, easily adjustable down to EU standard, suspension is otherwise IDENTICAL! woot!

5-speed was a typo on my part...
