Mine came up as Unknown ID, something that comes up when some very important people call my phone.

        10. Can I register my cell phone on the National Do Not Call Registry?

Yes, you may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has accepted cell phone numbers since it opened for registrations in June 2003. There is no deadline to register a home or cell phone number on the Registry.

That info is from here. I would think they know the law. If you recieved a call, it may be a company that you gave your cell number to thereby allowing them to contact you using that number. Credit card companies are really bad about that. If you received a call from someone you haven't done business with in some shape or form in the past, the call was illegal.

okay... so if its illegal for telemarketers to call cell phones, why the heck does the "do not call" list accept cell phone numbers?

Time to become literate. It's illegal for telemarketers to autidial (which almost all do) to cell phones. Telemarketers need your consent to call your cell phone. Putting your number on the DNC list, opts you out of all telemarketing (that the DNC list covers).
