Oh god please don't even compare an X850 to a 7800 GT.

Abit is not what they used to be, I would never buy their products. Stick with Asus, DFI, or MSI's Diamond plus brand.

That Ram you listed is Cas 3....valueram....need I say more.

PLEASE do your homework and learn how to build a proper system before blowing your money out the window.

    NEVER, PURCHASE, GIGABYTE, VIDEOCARDS.

eVGA and XFX all the way. BFG is alright too. eVGA has a tradeup program as well.

Western Digital and Hitachi, best HD makers out there.

Also, if you want to blow your money on X2 n-pu's, then by all means do it.

      For a REALLY NICE SYSTEM

      PROCESSOR: AMD FX60
MOTHERBOARD: Ask Mango, I'm an mATX guru... But DFI is always good
RAM: Buy at least 2gb, buy low latency. Buy from good brands (corsair, patriot, ocz are ones I would suggest. I personally run g.skill)
HD: I'd actually suggest maxtor. All the other brands are dropping in quality. If you want silence, buy samsung. Buy SATA or SATAII drives.
Video: EVGA, BFG, Nvidia. Those are brands I trust. Buy an SLI configuration.
Sound: buy a sound card please. buy a creative sound card please. xi-fi card would be really nice.
Cooling: Buy a 500 dollar phase change cooler and make a watercooling loop for your video cards.

THIS WOULD BE A NICE SYSTEM. BUILD IT OR YOU SUCK AT COMPUTERS. Oh wait... you want to have a nice computer yet still save money? THEN DON'T SAY YOU WANT TO BUILD A REALLY NICE SYSTEM.
FX series procs are for newbs, Maxtor = Seagate kekeke, everything else I agree with.

You are all about teh phase change huh?

lawl! I totally forgot about xfx! and my wd hds crapped out on me more often than my other drives...

AND FX series is because this kid doesn't know wtf he's talkin about, i doubt he'd able to properly oc an opty!

And about teh phase! I'm still waitin for that ocz and an sli system so i can make an matx phase. Sure it'll be about the size of a mid tower, but it'll be freakin smaller than any other phase build I see.

Have you tried replacing the PSU in one of those things yet?

In all seriousness. I am trying to help you out.

Motherboards- Shuttleboards are the highest rated boards

CPU- only go with AMD and if you want to pay for it get dual core

Hard Drives- Only go with Western Digital

Graphics- toss up these days between Nvidia and ATi

Ram- try to get some ddr3 or better

Disk Drives- toss up but I like the MAD DOG and HP DVD Writers, I have 2

Okay, I offered help and I did have some sarcasm in the posts. Sorry if you took it the wrong way, but I am honest about what you should build... If you want a really nice system for the kid, it's top of the line. If you want a good system, then we can start talking about finding parts.

For a good high-end "budget" system...

processor: AMD Opteron 170 overclocked if possible
motherboard: ASUS, DFI, MSI high end nforce4 sli motherboard (I run msi, misque swears by it also, mango is running an asus, and everyone loves DFI)
memory: whatever is on the "today's deals" for high-end, quality ram. (Remember, low latency, high memory)
hard drives:maxtor/samsung (my opinion) or WD/hitachi (mango opinion) and remember to get SATA or SATAII
power supplies: Antec Neopower, Enermax Noisetaker, Hiper Type-R, PC Power & Cooling PSU, Seasonic S12 are all great power supplies.
case: Go aluminum, you'll be happier.
                    graphics card: XFX, EVGA, BFG

I really don't see why you are so offended by us telling you "that choice is horrible." It's the truth and you should know before you make any mistakes in buying those parts.

(I swear, all the people in computer help threads on AO don't really want our help. They just want confirmation that they have good parts so they can wave their e-pen-fifteen. The only people who actually take suggestions constructively are people who ask complex nerdy computer questions...)

                    .

kekekeke. go post your original system in a computer hardware forum. see what kind of response you get. i guarantee either the responses will be hilarious (for us) or the thread will be ignored.

You have good reason to doubt that. It really depends on what forum you go to. But in the wide scope of things, almost all computer forums are full of asshats that will tear you apart for "being a n00b". On computer forums there are helpful people, and then there are your average posters (aka flamer/troll/elitist).
