But thankfully I am a long way away from aerospace engineering.

I just finished my first week working at Dillon Precision in the engineering department. Its a real job! not an internship! hahaha I get health/life/dental/vacation... and my horse is even covered under their pet plan!

I love it. Its a "smallish" company and there isn't a cubicle in sight! If im not on the computer working on designs / part prints and what not, im up and out, checking parts making everything fits up, and works.

    Funny how things work out.

so, what kind of deal can you get me on a reloading setup?

Dude! I was just going to say, "Don't they make reloading supplies and gunsmith products?"

And then I scrolled down and saw your post and you ruined it for me...

        Dude!!! Seriously

Just think about this for one second!!! Seriously their job is way cooler than any of ours! If it weren't for a damed ear surgery I'd be doing this myself (or at least I'd hope to be).

alright, now all of you areospace engineers know what has to happen to make this next shot possible. Talk about applied engineering!

Yeah, but I'm not really in the market for a minigun, as much as I'd like one. A Dillon 550, on the other hand...

Do you get to hang out with the Blue Press chick?

Anyway, you're very fortunate to land a job with such a good company, making products that actually interest you.

I worked as a EDM machinist for a company that made fasteners for aircraft. The product really didn't interest me, but the process was fascinating.
            God gave you a soul.

Awesome. Now just save up for some pilot lessons, chalk it up to professional development and have the best of both worlds.

Hey billybob... you would have been jealous today.

walked in... dark wavy hair and a 1911 on her hip. Then that red dress for the photoshoot... omg.

She was a hire... but it turns out a lot of those girls are there all the time doing regular stuff.

                            my two cents....

okay, i guess i will go ahead and throw in my two cents now that i've seen this thread.

it honestly comes down to two questions you have to ask yourself.

                            1) what truly makes you more happy? sitting in a cockpit or being the one that makes that awsome cockpit come to reality?

                            2) do you have the money needed for the flight training if you go that route?

I have seen both feilds first hand myself. I spent my first two years at Embry-Riddle Areonautical University [as a AE student]. and if any of you guys and gals know anything about it, Aeronautical Engineering and Aero science is what its all about there.

Iam currently in my forth year of Aeronautical Engineering at college (out of 5), and like all the others that are in the program or have touched it, it is a very hard program compared to most other degrees. and it only makes it hard because your learning to feilds at once (math and science).

I will give you a few tips/things to think about with each degree, that i have come to learn. I can give you more if you wish.

                            AS = AeroScience = flight
                            AE = Aerospace Engineering

                            1) ( if you decide to be a AE student) if you decide to do AE, make it 5 years long and not 4. that way you are doing only about 14 credits a semester instead of 18.....and that will make things way easier for you

                            2) ( if you decide to be a AS student) I have come to see first hand that if you dont already know some people in the flight industry, it will be hard for you to get a job that you want. meaning, many grads dont find a job after they grad and have to sit with BIG tutition bills which they cant pay.....

                            3) (general) try to get as many General Ed class that are required during yoru summer break. that way you dont have to worry about that BS during the year....and will help you speed up your degree. also, it makes those classes much sorter. 6 weeks instead of a full semester length of those crappy classes.

                            4) ( if you decide to be a AE student) once you break out of the general math and science course and get to your major courses....thats when you will have fun.

                            5) ( if you decide to be a AS student) I highly suggest you do ROTC [if you have nothing against it] if you decide to do AS. they will pay for your flight training and will get you to flying planes as they should be.

                            6) (both) both jobs are never the same day twice....so you dont have to worry about getting bored with either

                            7) ( if you decide to be a AS student) you better be in great shape and hope nothing happens to you medically during yoru career life. because you can be ripped from your FAA flight status very easy and grounded for a long time/ever. and its really hard to get back. [ nothing like that to worry about with AE]

                            8) (both) you can have the best of both worlds by being a flight engineer. might be something that intrest you.

and one thing to really think about..... depending what part of AE you go into, you get the honor and title of being called a "Rocket Scientist". now, how may people can clam that? and you finally get the upper hand with those darn "Rocket Scientist" jokes........you know, the ones where its along the line, "it doesnt take a Rocket Scientist to do 'blank' ". cause if your doing what ever it is...aparently it dose. lol...sorry, sad joke i know...

and to answer the question about being "bus drivers"......its true, and most commercial pilots that i have talked to, do think that. because its a planned route with everything being step by step from the book.

but you do get the ability to fly across the states/world for free and get to see some great places.

oh, BTW. AE comes in 4 general different flavors.

                            1) propulsion (engines and rockets)
                            2) aeronautics Structural (flight and newer technology for in earth atmisphere flight and so on)
                            3) astronautics Structural (upper orbit and outerspace technology and flight) <-- which is what iam doing

anywho, like i said earlier, i can give you any other info you want to hear. because i have seen both first hand and know whats going on with them.

                            okay, enough of my rambling.

                            Hope that helps,
                            -Chris

                              forgot

forgot to add one important fact if you havent been watching the news on all the airlines.

you better take a look into the near future of most airlines.....most are going down the hole. with three closing up this past year with more certianly to follow soon.

so, better take that into consideration with your degrre option of flight.
