I'd say go with the Ranger. great little trucks. My gf has a 2000 ranger and has never had a single problem with it. How much can you get the ranger for?

As for the dodge, meh. I've never liked em that much in the first place, plus like lohman said, it won't really help you with your low maintenance woes. Keep in mind that the truck is 12 years old.

Yeah im a Mehcanic for a living as well and also too would STRONGLY suggest AGAINST buying an older full size. I had a 1994 F250 with a Diesel and FULLY loaded. Had that truck 3 years and LOVED IT. It had 100,000miles when i bought it and almost 200,000 when i sold it. It was a X farm truck though and was BEAT to hell. In all that truck cost me $16,000 in three years Includeing the purchase price and my modifications. It was great and had power to do ANYTHING and was even capable of pulling off 20mpg on the highway as long as you kept it a 60miles/hr. BUT it was 12 years old. ANd comeing from owning one your gona need to look at body mounts, rust repairs, Front end repairs driveline repairs(u-joints), suspenshion woes ETC. Its not CHEAP but its still cheaper than owning a NEW fullsize but more time consuming and the PITA factor turns som away.

IF you consider pickup SERIOUSLY look at the RANGERS No older than say a 2000(in 1998 they switched to a less costly front suspenshion that gets a better ride and is more trouble free). I got the 1996 because the old suspenshion is better suited for off road (although its more of a PITA. IF you want a bit of power the 4.0L V6 is PLENTY and has more so than some of the smaller V8 trucks but you also get alot closer to the V8s milage. Hte 3.0L v6 is a nice compromise and is proven VERY reliabel wether theirs and auto of a stick behinde it. ANd BRAND NEW you can get a ranger nicely equiped for $16,000 with a V6.

Buy one one or two years old and you can get a loaded 4x4 for your $10k.

What is patedic? I really can't understand your post, the grammar and spelling are PATHETIC.

Actually I've got a 97 Cavalier RS (2 dr coupe) and it has plenty of pickup for it's size (w/o modification). It has a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder inside, which isn't fantastic but it's better then the 1.4L. Thing I don't like about the Cavalier is the shelf life. Meaning at around 150k they start to poop out, sometimes sooner. Plus with the cost of a new one, you could buy something MUCH better. Plus I'm 6'1" and have had no issues with leg cramping. In fact the only car I have had problems of that type are in the smaller Kia's and the Geo Metro.

Like my previous post said... go with a Honda or Toyota. I've known several people that have had their toyota corolla since '84 and have over 300k on the odometer having only replaced the alternator and a few easy replacement parts.
                Sorry, I'm old

Back in september we bought a Chevy Aveo LT for around 12 grand walking off the lot with the extended 10 year bumper to bumper warrenty. granted we probley did not need that much of a warrenty and such, but being that I am a chick it is easier for me to take it to the mechanic and such that way.
I did notice that right now the chevy dealership has an 06 for just over 9 grand, which actually ends up being less then what we paid.
Now what do we think of it this many months later.. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. I am averaging about 38 miles to the gallon. I thought it was going to be to small to be carting the kids around in, but it is the perfect size. With the size that it is I have found that it is not getting cluttered with "stuff" like my past cars did. I am pleasantly surprized at the power that it has (figured it would have none), and even thought it is front wheel drive it does have the "hold" which helps with the wheels spinning when I get stuck in the driveway or when it snows.
There have actually been 2 people at my work that liked my aveoso much that they have gone and bought one for themselves. Not a single one of us have had problems.
If you don't like chevy i highly suggest that you look into the Suzuki reno or areo. they are smaller cars that had great leg and head room. very inexpensive too.. Plus they come with the suzuki 7 year bumper to bumper warrenty. We would have bought one of these if we were able to get one in black in a reasonable amount of time.. but alas it was a 6 week wait. So with the black Aveo we went..

I just saw this link for a honda civic commercial. Thought I'd throw it in this thread http://84.40.3.164/

                          Kinda cool.

I bought an 05 Chevy Colorado for 8100 bucks last year. It was brand new, but it's as stripped as you can get. It's a great little truck. Gets about 25 mpg with my studded snow tires and weight in the back. Probably does a little better with the summer tires and no weight.

And have an estimated turbo life of about 100K miles.... (though I have personally seen some go a lot further) Before jumping onto the foreign car bandwagon one has to consider what is available around them. How easy are parts going to be to get? Does your normal technician have the scan tools for the vehicle you are looking at (not talking some generic code reader here)? Is your normal technician willing to work on it? Are you confident in someone else? Are you going to have to go to the dealer more often for stuff and spend the $$$?

well the car im driving now is a 95 v dubb golf. it just needs a few hundred in parts , for example i need an o2 sensor ( im running way to rich , and im blowing carbon out my exhaust ) i need to replace the plug wires , wich are 80 bucks themselves , fuel filter , plugs , dist cap and rotor. thermostat. and some body work. ill probly just keep it cuz its fun to drive. my gf has an 01 cavilere and it has no balls at all. she got a good deal on it , but now things are starting to go wrong after 2 months of her having it.
