    computer building help needed

Hey, i just have a quick (very newbie-esque) questions for you guys about compatability.

will this hard drive be compatably with this motherboard?

the HD is ultraATA100, but i cannot find in my motherboard's manual whether it will work with ultraATA100 or not, all i see in my mobo's manual is that it is compatable with UltraDMA 100/133/150. is this the same thing or no? basically, will these two work together?

It will work, but IDE is an out-of-date interface that is being replaced by SATA.

For hard drives, you should keep an eye out for deals, because companies are constantly putting out deals on hard drives and you could easily get like 200 gigs for that price.

Get a SATA drive the Price to Performance Value is unbeatable to the increase in Cache, NCQ (SATAII/SATA300 Standard), and no PITA Jumpers

but if he doesn't have a mobo to supoprt it, it may not be worth upgrading at this point.

I'm not convinced about SATA drives. My mother-in law had a brand new Dell with a SATA drive. About 1 week after the 1 yr warranty expired her HD just went. She even had problems with it before and she is does not do anything computer intensive so I don't think it was her fault.

Dell did replace the drive for free but guess who got to install and set it up

I have never had any problem with any of the 5 IDE drives I've worked with. I still even have my first one, a whole 1gig!

That problem has to do with power and cable shielding, also its Dell, its an OEM drive, they cut corners to save a few bucks. NCQ is also a plus, from what I hear its supierior to SCSI's TCQ. SATA is also plays an important role in the Enterprise level. With a SAS expander the number of physical drives is outrageous. Manufacturers are taking advantage of this and putting out drives that are almost continous duty. Has anyone ever thought of using IDE drives at the server level?
