IM a cruiser guy my self (2000 Yamah V-Star) but none the less congrats on the new ride.
I STRONGLY second the advise to take a rideing course. I did mine early last year and it was pretty confidence building and really help point out what the bikes can doo. I actually had a BLAST during the course. They suplied the bikes (Little 125cc dirt bikes and a handfull of small cruisers). I took the cruiser and although it was SEVERLY underpowered it was a blast to scout around with. The instructors had my draggin pegs befor i new it.

I'm pretty sure they say the new R1 has 183 horses. That's pretty impressive for something that weighs in around 400 lbs.
