If you think High Schools dangerous...don't come to UC

The University makes it a point to notify all students of any crime that occurs around campus.

So today, I get this in my E-Mail

Mind you, that only 3 weeks ago, there was an incident where a stray handgun bullet (from a shooting three blocks away) went through a window on the 9th floor of my dorm, exactly 8 floors directly above where I'm typing this.

    Re: Shots Fired On Campus

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, shots were fired on the
western edge of the UC campus near the McMicken Circle intersection with
Clifton Avenue. Two vehicles were known to have been struck by bullets
fired from a third vehicle, which then fled the scene.

One occupant in each of the two vehicles suffered a single wound to the
arm. The victims were both taken to University Hospital for treatment.
The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Neither victim is
believed to be a UC student.

The incident is still under investigation at this time. If you have any
information on this offense please contact Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.

While all serious crime has not been eliminated from streets surrounding
the Uptown Campus, the data from the last two years shows a 25% decrease
in reported crime in Corryville, Fairview, Clifton Heights and
University Heights. Crime on-campus is down 35% over the past two
years. The collective efforts of the community members and the police
    are having a positive impact.

Campus is beautiful, and I don't have a problem walking it at night because actual campus is really safe. I walked past this area (on the way home from a party) probably half an hour before this took place...kinda scary...

Being in a safe area doesn't mean innocent kids won't get killed, as I've learned this week. But that's for a thread of its own I suppose... Sorry to hear about your potential problem duder.

You should see the emails my school sends out on a daily basis. It's usually something along the lines of, "A student was being dumb walking alone late last night and was mugged/threatened/beaten up/held at knifepoint/held at gunpoint. Are you all morons, or have you forgotten where you live? Don't walk alone, and don't walk anywhere late at night."

Yeah...It kinda does. This is only the third one we've gotten this year. Everything has happened off of campus, or just off of campus.

That is nothing growing up during the summers just about every other week cops would be pulling out bullets from the building across from my apt. As for incidents at college, my college would transfer incidents so that it would never be on campus to keep the statistics low. yet the number of incidents of students getting assaulted, robbed, etc keeps going up.

Well I go to Georgia tech which is right in the middle of downtown atlanta so crime is pretty bad. The campus is safe for the most part but one step off campus and you could find yourself in a lot of trouble. I can't even keep up with the shooting and what not that happen so close to campus. Car theft is a HUGE problem up here too. You can't leave anything your car that might possible have some value (even spare change) or you'll wake up to a busted out window. A friend of mine actually had his car broken into, hotwired, and stolen from a school parking deck. I think we've already had 7 armed robberies this semester? And to top all that off I get begged for money almost everywhere I go from homeless people.

                        Hooray Atlanta!
