watched some kind of show on hurricanes yesterday and It was talking about how NY city is due for a hurricane, and the way the water channel is it will have 2x the surge as what a hurricane of its intensity should have (ie class 2 hurricane will have a typical class 4 storm surge). plus skyscrapers will create windtunnels town the streets. Also back in ~1920s? an entire island called Hog Island was wiped out by a hurricane. ~2000 people died in that one. Most deadly US hurricane killed 12k in TX
