ITT: We recommend cool software/games/etc. for PC's!

I'm sure we all have neat little programs, games, or random things on our computer that everyone else will never hear of. That's where this thread comes into play. We need to spread the joy of cool or essential computer programs that other people probably don't know about. I got the idea for this thread from StumbleUpon, a cool extension for Firefox that allows you to randomly browse through websites that other people have recommended, because there are thousands of cool websites that you'll never encounter with normal browsing.

Try to keep the programs free and easy to find/install.

The Rasterbator - http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ - Allows you to print pictures as large as you want, from 1 sheet to 200 sheets, the sky's the limit.

StatBar - http://www.statbar.nl/ - Neat little customizable stat bar that moniters your computer stats.

Firefox - www.getfirefox.com - Web browser that's 10x better than IE6. Download and utilize extensions (available on Mozilla's site) such as Adblock, Adblock Filterset.G, and ForecastFox.

Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory - http://www.3dgamers.com/games/wolfensteinet/downloads/ - Free Online FPS. Nuff Said.

      Some of my personal fav's

      Open Solaris -- Excellent O/S
      PHP -- Scripting
      MySQL -- Free DataBase
      Apache -- WebServer
VI -- The only text editor
Open Source Tripwire -- Excellent Unix Filesystem Security

*edit -- How can I forget

Tomcat -- Open Source Free App Server

All of the above, all you need to run a free and fairly easy to setup web/app server for any small/home business.

The indie game Retrobooster is on its way. It's an old-school 2D shooter with 3D graphics, explosions, monsters, fast flying, and more explosions. As evil aliens attempt to lay waste to the galaxy, fight your way through dozens of worlds with an impressive array of weapons. Really Slick also features free 3D OpenGL screensavers. Some are based on classic screensaver themes, such as fireworks, swarms, and plasma. Others are more original and psychadelic, with geometric patterns based on principles of physics and mathematics. The screensavers are originally written for Windows but have been ported to other platforms such as Mac OS X and Linux.

              some pretty cool screensavers.

                Another cool screensaver:

Electric Sheep is a collaborative abstract artwork run by thousands of people all over the world. When their computers 'sleep', the Electric Sheep comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as 'sheep'. Anyone watching one of these computers may vote for their favorite animations using the keyboard, which drives a genetic algorithm. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience. The Electric Sheep are a free and open source service. The HD Gold Sheep have just been released!

                            from the computer megathread:

                            os - linux - ubuntu
everyone knows firefox, adaware and spybot
                            office suite - openoffice.org
zip - 7-zip, its completely free, not a trial version
                            music - winamp
crapcleaner - cleans unneeded files, and searches registry for errors
                            messenger - trillian or gaim
                            dictionary - wordweb dictionary
Jodix free Ipod video converter - converts any video file to .mp4 compatable with the ipod video... i have about 20 paintball videos on my ipod

one thing ive been looking for - a free audio editor. not a trial version, i mean completely free. ive found plenty of trial versions but they either dont let you save as mp3, or allow only limited periods of use/limited saves. all im looking for is a program that will let me open a file, cut sections of the song, and save the remainder. and maybe fade in/out. its something i want but its just not worth $30 to me. bands always think its "cool" to have the last track of their cd 30 minutes, with a hidden song at the end, but it just pisses the heck out of me.

give it 30 seconds and then down in the bottom right hand corner a red link will allow you to download. You may have to right click and save as.
