    RC Truck question

I have wanted to get into rc cars/trucks for 7-10 years, anyway I just picked up a used electronic truck to start out with, the Tamiya s10. I was wondering a few things, for shock oil would it be possible to use paintball oil such as gold cup or super lube? I recieved a very small amount of shock oil with the truck, and it looks similar to the paintball oils, but I wasnt sure about it. I already know I am going to get a gas powered truck next, but since I have this truck I wont need a radio or any electronics, what kind of kit would you recomend for around $150 that would have everything I need minus the electronics, possibly an ARF? I have been around RC Planes, but havnt done much with cars/trucks, I havnt seen any ARF's yet. What is the best way to clean a RC car? I have tore mine down and cleaned it with just water, but that just doesnt do a great job. I also of course relubed all the joints and gears after I was done.

If anyone has any general tips or anything id greatly appreciate them as well. A track is in the works, but right now I just have a small course setup in my back yard.

the tamiya s10 is more of a bashing around truck than a racing truck, your local hobby shop should sell shock oil in various weights, paintball oil is pretty expensive to use as shock oil, a decent kit for around $150 for electric would be a duratrax evader, traxxas rustler, or a traxxas stampede, i've owned the rustler, the evader is a losi XX/T clone, so its a proven design, its hard to find r/c truck in kit form anymore, most are RTR check out tower hobbie's though
Http://www.towerhobbies.com you probably already knew that though since your into planes.

oh and for cleaning i usually just use a air compresser and blew it off.

Yeah, tower hobbies is my second home, I feel like a kid right before christmas everytime I get a new catalog from them. I will look into the cars you suggested. I cant belive they dont sell many kits, it seems like a waste to have to buy a new controler everytime you get a new truck. Oh well, thanks for your help.

btw, you are right, the s10 is nothing but a beater truck, but it is quiet a bit of fun in the sand pit in my back yard. I unhooked the front drive train so its just a 2wd, its a little slower, but it is nice for drifting. Also, the closest hobby store to me is an hour and a half away so I get most of my stuff online, I cant bring my self to pay for shipping on just a little bottle of shock oil.

Yeah the shock oil is a silicone based oil so I wouldn't use just any regular oil. Also look into the T-maxx lineup. There's a ton of upgrade parts for them so it'll keep you busy for a while!

I'm currently working on building my own r/c car powered by a weedeater engine. It'll be awhile before that's done though.

Oh and to clean them I usually just blow them off with the air compressor as well, but there's some guys on maxxtraxx.com that use denatured alcohol and swear it won't hurt the plastic at all.

I have been out of the R/C Car scene for about 15 years, but Futaba radios have always served me well. I also ran mostly Novak electronics since I was sponsored by them but I had a few Tekin speed controls.

Like I said, it's been 15 year or so since I last raced. I had a most as many RC Cars as I have paintball guns.

Lol... i've got something like 9 paintball guns and 3 nitro r/c cars. Craziness! Bad thing is that I don't play paintball anymore, or play with my nitro r/c cars either. Not enough time in each day.

I'm never going to sell them though.

I have over 35 Paintball guns and I think I had 15 (or so) R/C cars (all electric)

                    I still have everything.

                    My R/C car list:

                    Custom Works Dominator
                    RC 12L (I have 4 of them)
                    Predator 12
                    Predator 10
                    RC 10L
                    Corally 12
JRX2 (I have two of them, one converted to a truck)
                    Boomerang
                    Big Wig
                    *I know I am forgetting a few.
