    Need help from a computer Guru.

    Whenever I sign on to one of my computers notepad opens on the desktop with this message:

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    LocalizedResourseName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21787

    It opens with each of the user names, right as the desktop comes up.

    The only problem that I have noticed with the computer is that if you actually try to log off as one user and log on as another the password box will never give you a cursor(the ability to type in a password). The only thing that can be done from that point is to shut down. If you "switch users" it will allow the password to be typed and open the other users desktop.

    I have scanned for virus and run spyware. I installed windows again, but haven't actually pulled a formatted install yet, I did the "recommended" install.

    What does this mean and why does it do it?

    Check your startup folder. You probably have a duplicate file. If that's the case, delete one and leave the other. Restart and you should be fine. I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I built a system for my g/f. That's how I fixed it.

    Edit: You should be looking for the desktop.ini file. There will most likely be two. As I said, delete one and leave the other alone. This *should* solve your problem.

      It may have to do with the win.ini file not sure, but it sounds almost like a script for login got fudged somehow. If I were you check system.ini, win.ini, hkey_localmachine>microsoft>windows>current version>run folder if you don't know what I'm talking about don't try to fix them

          I started having a multitude of other problems as well. This computer is the one my teenager uses so there is no telling. I am formatting the drive and doing a clean install.
