Dont know much about the Tercel, but since its a Toyota you cant go wrong. Ive got a 88' Toyota Celica, it was beat to hell by old people when i first bought it. After a few weeks of work it was/is as good as new! Its a blast to drive, gets good mileage, and gets me from point 'A' to point 'B' without any problems. All Toyota's are great cars, my neighbor also has an 88' camry with 280,000 miles on her! My brother swears by Toyota specificly the Celica model, in fact he owns the site www.6gc.net so get off the computer and go buy that car!
Advantages:
1) Reliable
2) Great Milage
3) Fun!!!

A corolla fun? For that matter, any Toyota except a Supra or the old MR-2, is specifically designed to be lame. Well, the celica is just designed to be obnoxious. But to each their own, unless said person continues to accuse toyotas of being fun.Originally posted by Huskie_American3) Fun!!!
As far as buying the corolla, do it. Just get a mode of transportation that has four wheels and runs.Kosmo For President '08, '12, '16... However long it takes

well i bought it. i took it for a nice drive then read most of the repair records. dating all the way back to 87. it was purchased new for a whopping 6k it has had litteraly thousands of dollars worth of work done to it. in 03 they replaced the radiator and t-stat. regualar oil changes, tires , valve cover gasket, exhaust. the only problem is it burns a lil oil and the tank has a little leak. very easy to fix. i ended up getting it for 545 cash. ill try to get pics sometime

I had an 88 tercel, and it just wouldn't die. I traded it in with 120K, and nothing had gone wrong with it at all except a bad thermostat.Comment

well i think the first owner ( a women ) got screwed on most of the work. i went threw all of the reciepts and found like 3 or 4 t-stats, a radiator , struts , breaks , the whole exhaust system like 4 times. about 30 oil changes. the amount of repair reciepts is crazy. but at least it was pretty much well taken care of

From what I've seen and heard, the tercels of that generation had issues with their cooling systems, as evidenced by mine and the repairs on hers.Originally posted by Soopa Villain17well i think the first owner ( a women ) got screwed on most of the work. i went threw all of the reciepts and found like 3 or 4 t-stats, a radiator , struts , breaks , the whole exhaust system like 4 times. about 30 oil changes. the amount of repair reciepts is crazy. but at least it was pretty much well taken care of

its an alright car. this last summer when i was visiting my aunt and uncle up in Idaho, my uncle got a new car, and pretty much gave me his tercel. he hated the thing so bad, and just about everything didn't work or was broken in a way. it was kinda fun to drive though, and i'm suprised it even ran with the amount of issues it had; and it ran strong. the hood had all kinds of dings and rust from rocks hitting it, all the lights were cracked, the windshield was pitted and cracked beyond belief, the mount for its left rear suspension broke off, so you had to be carefull in the turns and bumpy roads, the windshield wipers didn't work, and its gearing didn't make much sense to me. if you tried to go in reverse, it would take off at about 20 mph, so if i was anywhere near anything i didn't want to hit, i put it in neutral and pushed it. it was a very reliable car though.
it wasn't an 87 hatchback though. i want to say 84, but not sure, and it had a normal trunk.Last edited by wanna-b-ballin'; 03-25-2006, 11:27 PM.upgrade fund: $145
