    You call that a knife?

Khukri (11" blade) with "Operation Iraqi Freedom" engraved on one side and "War on Terror, let Tyrants fear" engarved on the other side. Hopefully it arrives and is not a P.O.S. but it's just going to end up a letter opener or shelf paper weight back home anyway.

I have a ton of respect for the Ghurkas history and have met a few in my days. A buddy of mine saw a PSD team in Iraq that was made up of former Ghurkas react to an insurgent attack in the IZ. The local Iraqi forces wussed out but these guys dismounted and assaulted the ambush and the Khukris came out. Crazy Nepalese psuedo-ninjas!

Hate to say it RBF, but that looks like one of the run-of-the-mill India or Pakistani made knock-offs, with the cool sentiments tossed in to jack up the price.

The ceremonial notch is not very defined, the "blood groove" looks very cheaply done, and the edge looks done with a grinder or bastard file.

I hope you didn't pay more than $25-30 for it.

If anyone wants a real Kukri, look into Atlanta Cutlery. They found a large number of 100+ year old Brit and Nepalese military issue Kukris not too long ago in Katmandu.

                Sorry, couldn't resist.

Got a kukri years ago, one word of caution: get rid of the leather sheathe. It'll rust that blade like a bastard. Make (or have made) a custom wooden one. It'll look nicer and that big chopper will last longer.

Id normally hop all up and down on anything elcheapo and give ya a thousand and one reasons its a royal POS... but recently ive turned a leaf in my book... a cheap fixed blade anything is still a usefull tool and MUCH less of a sin to buy in comparison to a cheap folder

So kudos on your addition to the stabby things wall... eventually I will get around to building that forge/grinder bench ive always wanted and start putting my own steel out

Yeah, the jury is out until I get it in my hands! The seller has a return policy if you're not happy with it though, and they have all good feedback, so hopefully that is a good sign. The average Kukri is rather plain and simple but hopefully this will be better than that. I agree, the sentiment adds some to the cost ($65). Not too much $$$ but if it is a POS, it's going back. Dealer says they are made in Nepal and that they are geniune. Here are comments from the dealer:

Official kukri supplier to the defense ministry of UK since 1993.

Company owned and run by ex-Gurkha army veterans.

Nepal's first and largest manufacturer of genuine kukris since 1991.

Existence and experience with 15 years of worldwide recognition.

I'll update once I have said Kukri in hand.
