That is not going to do anything. How many times have they changed the driving age? I think its about time they change the whole system for getting your licencse. All I had to do was go around a rotary that was next to the RMV and do a 3 point turn on a wide side street and remember hand signals What's even scarier is people like me at 16 you can get your class M permit which allows you to drive a motorcycle with only restrictions being no passenger and no riding between sunset and sunrise. Almost got a ticket before I had my actual license for doing 70 in a 35 Bikes are fast

i feel raiseing the limit isnt going to help. the problem is a lack of experiance. the drivers ed system was a joke when i went thru it. Probably still is. The test was the same as RapidTransit described. To me it sounds like he went to the Reading RMV also.

I feel lucky my parents tought me how to drive by taking me to a empty industrial park on sundays until i got comfortable enough to drive elsewhere and then letting me drive alot while i had my permit. Basicly i was the driver anywhere they wanted to go.

Many of my friends only got the drives ed class time, and drives ed road time and the final test because there parents refused to let them drive. Something like 6 hours experiance before getting a licesnce. Not good.

I really like this parargragh "The bill, perennially debated and redrafted at the State House, appears to have finally garnered the support needed to make it law, the leaders say, following an outcry from parents, police, and legislators, who say the current minimum age, 16 1/2, allows too many inexperienced and immature drivers onto state roadways"

Ummm if you raise the limit to a higher age they are still going to be inexperianced. and not that much more mature.

Raise the driving age, restructure the course, and lower the drinking age to 14.

I don't think the problem is a driving ability issue. It's not hard to drive a car. It is hard to pay attention to your surroundings and be aware of what other drivers, and pedestrians, etc. are doing. That comes with experience. That's awful hard to do when you've got your friends blabbing away in the car, your talking on your cell phone, and your worried about whatever high school kids worry about now. What they should do is have very very strict rules for new drivers. They should take away your license for any moving violation. If your a responsible driver, you wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I don't see a problem with 16 year olds driving a motorcycle, aside from the fact that I have to pay a lot of insurance because punk kids keep crashing. I'm not really as worried about being in a head on collision with some 16 year old when he's on a bike. I'll probably walk away. My first concern is my own safety. Riding a bike for a while really improves your driving ability as well. You have to be a lot more vigilante on a bike. People don't see you. It teaches you to really pay attention to what is happening around you. And most importantly, bikes are cool.

Nice argument, anyone who disagrees with you is either wrong or has forgotten what is is to be a teen? Crawl back into your hole...

I will say that graduated licenses are VERY effective at decreasing accidents.

Limiting the night time driving that a 16 year can drive is effective.

Limiting the number of passengers that a 16 year can have is effective.

I am unsure of the effectiveness of raising the driving limit, but I do know that graduated licenses are effective.

young drivers = stupid drivers, no questions asked. They're immature and not ready to be on the road yet.
who ever said "its not whether you win or lose..." probably lost.

See, they're going the wrong direction with this. They should put a cap on the driving age so old people can't drive. At least the little kids get out of my damn way. You other M*******s know what I'm talking about.

in mass right after you get your licesce your not allowed to have passangers in the car for i belive its 6 month after you get your licence. If caught with passangers i beleive you lose your licence.

But it rarely happens that people get pulled over for this, I think its a temporary license suspension and/or a fine.

I learned to drive in a 73 Torino let me tell you, You always needed pay attention.

really, what i feel needs to be done, is professional driving classes, no not going around a circuit, but actually learning to handle your vehicle at high speeds. Know how to recover from a fishtail correctly, learn how to handle the car in the snow, learn how to handle the car, when it is not in a normal situation, and learn how to actually drive. Im glad my dad tought me how to drive after i got the baisics down. About 6 months after recieving my licence My dather took me in the rx8 out to an open vacant lot, no light poles, just a big *** piece of asphalt. We practiced handling the car from slides, spins etc, and i am probabally one of the most cautious, sensible, and safet drivers i know.

I see more and more accidents happen from kids trying to hot dog it, and not really knowing how to do it. If you know how to do it, and everyone else does, then what is the point in doing it if it isnt something that is special any more.

I dont know, but this is my outlook on the situation.

the other thing is every kid should start out with a slow, beat up piece of crap car. Ive seen more kids wrap their new bmw around lightpoles than i have their '83 mercedes diesel.

last but not least, is the permit time should be extended. make it a year with your permit, then a year on the cindarella licence, then the full licence.

edit: also, no one in the state of kansas should be alowed to drive, they are the worst drvers, and actually make me appreciate jersey and mass drivers. Thats pretty sad. deleware and their right to drive is also in question
