    Thinking of moving to SF

Well, I'm thinking of moving up to the city. There are a lot of jobs up there, and I think I'd like the social scene more. I'd be selling my house in San Jose and buying something up there. I'm actually planning to downsize so that my payments are more reasonable.

The only problems are 1) SJ is dead center of the Bay, and my place has easy access to the train, the light rail system, and all major highways. An hour to the city, hour to Monterey, three and a half from Tahoe. 2) My place is pretty cool, and I wont be able to afford something similar in the city. 3) If you live in the city, your pretty much stuck there. Noone lives in SF and comes down to the South Bay to hang out (probably for a reason).

I sorta interested in peoples opinions on big-city living. Thoughts, opinions, insults welcome.

one thing for sure is that SF has the worst parking issues ever. DPT likes to ram you in the you know where and parking reg. sucks really bad. good luck. im trying to get to san bruno. I like the suburban better then city living, to many crackheads in the city

Yeah, I'm well aware of the parking situation. I'm thinking about selling my car. Public transit is pretty good in SF.

My parents live in San Jose, so I'm thinking I can take the train down on Friday night and steal one of their cars for weekends.

I'm actually thinking city living would be more fun than the suburbs... I live pretty much in downtown SJ, and its still a little too suburban for my taste. I'm only (?!?!) 25; so I'd like to have lots of bars and wimmins around.
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.

This is the only part that I'm scratching my head about. Exactly how big is your house and what exactly are you going to downsize to?

Just for perspective: $60k a year in L.A. is equal to $110k in SF (as of 2004)

I currently have a ~1500 sf three bed/three bath townhome. I'm planning on buying a loft, one bedroom, or open floor plan in the 600-1000 sf range.

I don't see how it's different from any other city...but ok. Must have come at a bad time.
