I seriously think that you will be content with the acura rsx-s. The motor that was issued in the 2002-2004 model year was the k20a2 with the 6speed transmission. It is a very perky car to get you around town and is great to flog around the track. Modifications for the acura and honda crowd are endless and you will not be let down with the options that are out there. Stock rsx-s run about 14.8 -15.2 in the 1/4 mile with a good driver and have great slalom speeds to match. My friend has one with hondata/intake/exhaust/full coilvers and minor other things and its a blast to drive! It handles awesome in the canyons and banging gears to that 8600rpm fuel cut is insane. The car feels like an arcade game with a smooth shifting tranny and clutch and when vtec kicks in, its an awesome sound that you will never forget (lift or vvtli on the gts sounds even better!). He gives the car plenty hell and its been perfectly fine with ZERO motor/tranny problems 4 years later. The only flaw i see with this car is that in the 2002-2004 model years, the leather for both the passenger and driver seat are garbage. Cracks began appearing in no time but nothing like the honda warranty couldnt fix (its not TEARING CRACKS or holes in the seat, you would just expect more and many people ignore that fact. Im just picky with those things). My friend had the seat covers changed and the new style leather is a definite plus. So if you want a reliable sporty car that will get you around town with a grin on your face, the rsx is the way to go. Now onto the 2005-2006 model rsx type s. The japan version motor which was issued in the rsx aka "integra" in japan is known as the k20A. The k20A came with a better flowing intake manifold, more aggressive intake and exhaust cams, free'er flowing exhaust, a 4.7 final drive, and many other upgrades with those being the major ones. For the 2005-2006 model the rsx received the K20z1 which is pretty much the same as the K20A. With minor mods people are cranking out 210fwp with the newer style motors and that new 4.7 final drive is a MAJOR PLUS!!! I have a good amount of friends that drive rsxs and all are very content with their purchase. (The stock michellins are garbage for pushing the car 8/10ths around the turns) People are now running 13.7-13.9 with regular bolt ons and minor ecu tuning with these cars My question to you is do you really need that navigation system? Do you REALLY get lost that often?what will this offer you besides having something cool to stare at? if you do then mabey you might need one The 2005-06 model also came with revised front headlights and rear tailights with minor changes to the guages and leather material. The 05-06 type-s came with 17inch 5 spoke rims as opposed to the 16inch 5 spokers on the 02-04. Now dont get confused with the lower hp numbers for the 2006 rsxs, thats because SAE changed their standards which renders all hp readings for all 2006 cars lower than what they actually are. If i were you, it would be the rsx hands down! great looks, great performance, cheaper, and RELIABILITY!!!! If your looking for another car that is like the rsxs, the celica gts may be another car for you to look at. It offers a 1.8L 2zzge that puts down 180hp and usually about 165fwp. This car offers even better handling capabilities with a more sporty feel. The motor equipped is the 2zzge in the gts and 1zzfe in the gt. The only downside to this car is that mods are almost non existant compared to the rsx. Intakes, exhauts and only one known full computer are available for the gts. It is only now after being 5 years in production that cams had finally come out and in the year 2005 the celica was discontinued. The fastest model year celica would be the 2000-2001 gts with the 8350 fuel cut. In 2002 they reduced the fuel cut to 7800rpms which made landing the second cam very hard and slowed its 1/4times by a few tenths. This could be fixed by picking up an 00-01 ecu and a knock sensor which would bring it back to its 8350 fuel cut. Toyota did this because when the celica first came out its shifter gates were so close (shifter gates were revised in 02-05) and many inexperienced manual drivers were blowing their motors (due to misshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear at high rpms Sometimes even from 5-2 ) anyways toyota thought that by reducing the fuel cut that they would be able to resolve this issue of blown motors (of course that didnt help because it doesnt matter what your fuel cut is, if your going 80 and decide to put it into 2nd your going to blow it!) In 2003 the celica was switched over to drive by wire and the 8350 fuel cut was restored but the option of using an aftermarket standalone ecu was not possible due to the drive by wire). In the years 2004-2005 the 7800rpm fuel cut was brought back Even though this car may put down lower hp numbers this car makes up for it in weight! Weighing 200+ pounds less than the rsx this car is a definite roller coaster in the canyons. Stock celicas have been known to run 14.8s in the 1/4 with the fastest all motor celica getting a 13.5 without cams and on the stock restrictive header. The braking is SUPERB to that of the type S but many seem to prefer the more daily practical ride of the type s. The rsxs and gts are pretty much a drivers race when the two are put against eachother, but the k20 definitely has the modders edge to it. The bseries, kseries and 2zz motors are very stout high performing motors. You may not believe me but a stock RSXS/gts will be head to head with your dads rx8 and in many cases the rsxs and celica gts will end up pulling up top in freeway pulls (assuming you land both on the second high lift cam). Sorry if my post seems cluttered, PM for any questions you got!!!

Might I reccomend the Mazdaspeed 3? Its got a rather peppy 250hp engine to give that hatch a kick in the pants.

They have a very brief description of it under the mazdaspeed vehicles section on mazdas page. Its technically not available yet, comes out this year as a 2007 though, and it will cost under 25. Same engine as the Mazdaspeed6, but they crapped the exhaust up to make sure it didnt outdo the 6. They also didnt make it awd to keep the price down, but they did add a standard lsd to keep the 0-60 "under 6"

wow kosmo, i read up a bit on some googled websites, and this looks like it may be the car im looking for! if course, il still be checking out the rsx and the others, but a mazda 3, with more umph is really what ive been wanting. Not to mention its a good looking hatch, with options that i want, not to mention that the mazda dealership loves us This may be my new top contender, especially if it is under 25k.
