I was hoping Id talk to someone who knew what they were talking about, thanks for the advice, I really didnt think it was that serious and I thought it was too late to stitch..

theres a pic of it two posts up if you could tell me what you think, I really doubt Id lose my finger over that

also I think for the most part the nerves already dead or damaged, I dont have too much feeling until I get under my nail

A doctor could probably save your finger, keep it from getting any worse. So you started off smart, but by not going to the doc you're just being stupid. I don't want to scare you but if it get's infected you could easily lose not just your finger, but a good portion of your hand. (I've seen untreated wounds go to that extreme.) But then why listen to me what do I know, I only work at a Level I Trauma center in the middle of the ghetto, where a slow day for me is only dealing with 2 or 3 bullet wounds instead of my daily average of 6-8.

A cut like that could cause you to lose your whole hand? How fast would it happen? Usually, if I get a deep cut, I'll do what he did. Clean it and fix it up as good as I can. If it were to get worse, then I'd go to the doctor. The picture looks like a pretty trivial cut to me. It looks like the skin is just discolored from the blood. I've cut my fingers really bad, and did what he did. Clean and seal.

I don't mean to argue or anything, but to say that 'a doctor could probably save your finger' seems like your jumping the gun. I just find it hard to believe that a cut like that could do so much damage. I have no medical backround, but it just doesn't seem like that would happen.

Maybe your jumping the gun by saying he will be fine. I also have a medical background(medic), you would be suprised of the number of "trivial cut" that turn into big problems. Do I go to the doctor for the majority of my injuries. God no. But when I cant look at somthing in person and he explains it as a deep cut then, hell yes I am going to advise to go get it checked out.

A check up would take less then an hour, and I would bet that your or your parents insurance is going to cover it.

Your probably right. I just hate having to go to the doctor. It's such a hassle, I'd rather just be hurtin for a while.

Like any good ao post... We need pics

I was using a band saw a few years ago and I cut the about 3/8 of an inch off the tip. There was no bone in the piece that fell off, so I stitched it up myself. Just so happens we have that kind of stuff lying around the house. the part that really sucked was I had to pull the nail off of the piece that fell off.

Its been well over 10 years since I did that and my thumb is fine, barely can even see the scar, and my nail just grew over it like normal.

Doctors are for wussies... that is as long as there is an EMT in the house hold.

I cut off the tip of my left ring finger (not a lot but enough) with an exacto knife for a damn school project. pretty much just wrapped it with gauze and had my parents look at it. Just bandaged it up and went on even though I literally live 2 minutes from a hospital. But I would still say to have it looked at.

Been their done that Belt on my home built $300 mini bike flew off during a burn out and took the right ring finger from just under the nail. Did not hurt too bad, bleed good and made my co worker pass out (only person their) cleanied it out myself bandaged it up and wraped in electrical tape. Then got the safty department to help my passed out co worker LOL.

I myself hate Doctors for my own reasons but i know im stupid and would not advise my methonds to others.

When I was in 5th or 6th grade I was trying to catch a calf that needed to be doctored. I grabbed his tail and had one hand on his back when he decided to go through the feedbunks and smash one of my fingers (don't remember which one) between his back and the boards of the fence. It practically ripped the whole top half of my finger off to where the nail and all the skin around it was just dangling by a small section of skin.

Went home, put some gauze on it and taped one of those plastic finger protectors around it so I wouldn't bump my finger on things and left it for about a week.

Took it off and the whole upper part of my finger was black from dried up blood under the skin. Looked NASTY! Also about 3/4 of the root of the nail was showing and not covered up in skin. I cut all the dead nail off and ended up with just a little sliver of good nail in one corner, and I chewed all the dead black skin off and it healed up in no time. Nail grew back perfectly, can't even tell which finger it was.

                        404 for that picture.

I heard that the Army developed superglue as a quick and easy way to seal wounds in the field.

Yeah, superglue is a good way to seal deep clean cuts (such as from a sharp knife). Of course, an ER visit and stitches are a better idea, usually.

alot of you guys think that super glue is bad to seal cuts?
i kinda find that funny considering thats what they are useing in hospitals right now anyways, except under a different name. it really is the same exact stuff.

as for the no feeling and dead color, yeah, you should go get that checked on right now.

i can vouch for the super glue working well. i put a pretty deep cut in my finger with an exacto knife in my sculpture class. instead of going to the school nurse that is never there, and having to miss a chemistry test the next period, i opted to use super glue. its just as affective as stitches, is less painful, and a hell of alot cheaper.
