No doubt my mothers savage is 9 years old and has a TON of milage for a bike. And really we have not done anything to it as far as the belt goes. Im not too shure why my major preferance for shaft is i just think its a very clean look to it.

You do get a bit of whine from a shaft unlike a belt but maintanece is all but non existant. As for the twisting forces i have not experianced any with my bike nore my brother on any of his bikes all of witch have been shaft driven. 1999 Suzuki 800 Intruder, 1987 Honda Gold Wing, 1981 Yamaha Seca 650.

Either way ill take Shaft,Belt, or Chain prvided i like the rest of the bike. But all things equal i prefer shaft.

I agree.... But given the priorities past the point of Belt I would not weigh it too heavily. Chain... no way. Belt OK fine... shaft even a tad better. Is the way I look at it. I was certainly skeptical of belts until I had this Savage. Some will argue that when you get up into the Hot Rod of biking you leave out shaft. And even some of those swear by chain. So it can somewhat depend on what kind of HP your turning out. and trying to transfer to the ground.

Hmm reading through the reveiws on HERE It seems most people of my size find the sportsters adiquite size wize but uncomfortable for long hauls and in need of heavier rear suspenshion utherwise they bottom out. Still gona look at em thouh cause alot of reveiws say a 650 is not enuff to move my fat rear and well it aint complained so far.

BUT i really like the looks of the new 2006 Dyna Super Glides (FXDI).

THATS a bike i can see myself riding undobutebly.

1450cc fuel injected V-Twin 90lbs/tq, belt driven, but a SIX speed trans, and its about the same size as the V-Star im currently riding. And price wise its comparable to the full size bikes from across the pond. $16,000CDN

I think i may be riding the 650 for a bit longer than i anticipated LOL. I REALLY like that bike

Oh definately. The sportster is not designed to be a touring bike. It can be made into one easy enough but its called a "Sporty" because thats its use. they defer to other lines for the Tourning set ups. For instance if you looking into that price range... all the way up... is the new Street Glide. But there is all sorts of things in between.

As I noted I was turning mine into a short distance Tourer as well. But expect it to be mostly commuting and not much over 300 miles or so. It does that better than most. If 90 plus percentage of your riding is not touring then its the better choice. But it was never intended to be a Road Sofa... its more a Sport bike sort of bike.

                Minor update:

I got an letter back from Norton. It seems they are looking for more funding, and do not have a "realized production date" and have returned my deposit, and well, let me know when they will take deposits for the Norton 961s when they make it.

so, no morton for me, for a while. Considering that I was expecting that they wold start production in mid 2007, this puts them to 2008 and beyond...

So, maybe a triumph in my future.

Now that I'm properly employed once again, making real money, I'm considering a first motorcycle.

I was thinking of this: http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/bikes/bike.jsp?b=r1150rr

Good choice for a first timer?

I finally got a Ducati, in fact, the same Ducati Sport 1000 I mentioned in the first post.

Picked it up last night, and rode it home in the rain.
