I was at IAO two years ago when it happened. Got on the highway, it was a nice day, had the top down, and decided to show Nelson(ntn) how the car accelerated. I had only owned the car for about 6 months at this point, so it was still new and fun.

Got it up to around 117 (thats where the computer cuts off any more gas), and was beginning to slow because I was almost ready to get off when I saw red lights behind me.

The cop had nailed me going 90 in a 55 about 5 miles back. He was really nice, considering. He said "I clocked you doing 90, but I know you were going way faster due to how long it took me to catch up."

He could have gotten me for reckless driving, at LEAST. Instead he just gave me a ticket for 90 in a 55, which was about $200, and let me go.

I paid the ticket, and only got 2 points on my license due to the fact any out of state moving violations count as 2 points in NJ. Had I gotten the same ticket in NJ, it would have been at least 6 points.

My worst violation didn't result in a ticket.

A good buddy and I had "borrowed" a motorcycle from a family member....not that they knew we were borrowing it...
It had no tag, no lights, the back tire was showing threads, and from an unrelated situation had to be started with a screwdriver. Neither of us had a helmet on and were riding down the street in the dead middle of winter in Members Only jackets, t shirts and jeans. And not a license in sight.

We were going down a main road doing somewhere in the realm of 100 MPH and saw a cruiser coming the other way. Well I turned into a neighborhood and proceeded to attempt to elude the officer at well over 80MPH. DON"T EVER be fooled into beleiving that police cruisers aren't fast....

After getting pulled over, we went through the bevy of questions finalized with "Have you boys ever been in trouble with the law?"
Right as we were about to be arrested( I am pretty sure anyway) his radio went off with a high profile call. He looked at us and told us it was our lucky day, and to go straight home and not be seen again.

We were happy to oblige and started heading that way. About 1/4 mile down the road another car pulls up really close behind us and starts blinking lights. I pull over to let them by and it turns out to be another officer. We had been pulled over in front of his house! He was absolutely stunned that the other officer had let us go. Right as he reached for his phone to call us in, it went off and he had to respond to the same emergency call.

We were very close to home, so he made sure to follow us to the house and also to be sure that our parents were awake and aware of our arrival.

I had this go-kart around for my kids, well my friend had a suspended license and was staying here.

He decided to go for a joy ride, got pulled over on the road with it. Not road legal for a number of reasons (no lights, fenders, safety devices, adequate exhaust.... ), no insurance of course, no ORV he's on a suspended license. The cop tells him its too close to the end of her shift to take him to jail, tells him what direction she is going, and tells him she better not see him again.

Not my story, but pretty much tops everything:

              Hartford rocks!

              Play by play:

              Man gets drunk.
Man steals girlfriend's car while girlfriend is getting children out of the back seat.
              Woman can't get baby out.
Man runs over girlfriend's foot, drives off.
Man drives back, gets stopped by a man and a woman who saw him drive off earlier.
Woman reaches into car window to turn off ignition.
Man rolls up window, drives off with woman.
Woman jumps onto hood of car.
Man drives down I-84 with woman attached to hood (estimated speed: 70mph)
People realize a man driving down the highway with a woman on the hood of his car is generally a bad thing, and make him pull over.
Police come, man takes off again, this time sans woman and baby.
Girlfriend blames the woman trying to save her baby for "interfering."

"They attacked him and it just got crazy," she said, adding that she relies on Faienza to help her pay the mortgage on the house they own in New Britain.
They attacked him. To save her baby.

@25 mph your stopping distance (best case) is 26 ft.
@15 mph your stopping distance (best case) is 9.4 ft.

Now if you don't understand why stopping distance in a school zone where children might unexpectedly jump out, you're <FIXED FOR THE GRAMMAR NAZIS> a moron.

Guys, if you want to brag about how fast your car goes, do it on a track! All those doing 100's in low speed zones are dumb .

I just hope when you have to pay your dues to Murphy or Darwin, that you're <FIXED FOR THE GRAMMAR NAZIS> the only people killed or injured and some innocent bystander isn't taken out with you.

"where children might unexpectedly jump out"? okay, im pretty certain i survived 5 years of elementary school without taking a running leap into the street outside my school. any kid who does so deserves to get hit. kids arent stupid, and 25 MPH isnt an unreasonable speed for a school zone.

I'm going to point this out once.

                    a) The school zone speed in CA is 25. Generally, kids don't jump out in front of the car for no reason. Going 25 gives you ample time to stop.

                    b) If you're going to call someone a moron, PLEASE, for the LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, PLEASE at least spell "your/you're" correctly! "You're" is a contraction of "you are." "Your" refers to your person.

EX: You're a moron. Your shirt is on inside-out.

the real secret, though, is to speed in canada.

my housemaster was in canada on the highway on some buisness trip and there was no one in sight, so he just kept slowly speeding up... then he passed a cop. the cop turned around and took 10 minutes to catch up to him, he had been going 107 MPH in a 100KM/h zone... you know how much his ticket was? around $20 USD. and it was in canada so it didnt go on his record.
Schenanigans! Or tell us exactly which province you were speeding in and what year this was.

                      107mph is 172.1998 kph.

Speeding in Quebec would get you >>
                      $15+
                      5) if the speed exceeds the speed limit by 61 km/h or more, $30 for each 5 km/h by which the speed exceeds the speed limit.
So, 15+70/5*30= 435$can (and seven demerit points) or 325-350$US

Also, many Canadian provinces have agreements with many US states. The fines and penalties may follow you back home.

                        Fixed

As for 25 being "reasonable", read my response to Slade.

Sorry, but when you drive, YOU don't get to choose whether speed limits are reasonable or not. The public chooses to set them, the police are obligated to enforce them.

Worst ticket I received (little back ground story the car really really did not like it when I loaded it up for the trip to begin with).Driving back down from snowboarding with 2 friends in my 1996 Mazda protege.A car blows by me like I'm not moving (I'm barely able to get up to 75 mph) He is about a half mile infront of me when I see high beams hitting him. So basically its speed trap and the cop just gave the guy a free warning. I drive by and sure enough he pulls out and pulls me over. He asks me if I know how fast I was going and I told him around 70. He tells me he had me clocked going 95 in a 65 zone. Ticket of $150. The thing that got me was to fight the ticket it would have cost me and my friends 4 times the amount than to just pay it.
I ended up paying it and checking the no contest box (like hell am I pleading guilty to that charge) I get the check back a week later in my pissed off mood when mailing the payment int I forgot to sign the check. On the side note I've learned that going down that highway either go over 90 or below the speed limit cuz in the last several years I have seen the same fricking bs happen where someone is tearing down the road they won't bother to try to pull them over.
